It’s common to have questions before joining a therapy group.

Whether you’re feeling curious, uncertain, nervous, or simply exploring your options, those thoughts are completely understandable.

Group therapy provides an opportunity to connect, reflect, and learn alongside others in a professionally facilitated setting.

It’s possible to hold two truths at once. 🌿

You can be:
✨ capable and still feel lost
✨ kind and still need boundaries
✨ healing and still struggling
✨ loving and still questioning

Being human isn’t always black and white.

Emotions, experiences, and different parts of identity can exist alongside one another even when they seem contradictory.

Therapy may offer space to explore these experiences without judgement.

At Perth Psychology Collective, we believe self-understanding and compassion can play an important role in personal growth and wellbeing. 💙

A lot of people delay therapy because they think they need to:

- explain everything clearly
- know exactly what’s wrong
- have the “right words”

But often, people begin therapy with:

“I don’t know where to start.”

And that’s okay. You do not need to arrive with perfect insight or a fully formed story. Therapy can begin with confusion, uncertainty, silence, emotion, or simply knowing something does not feel okay anymore.

Part of the process is learning how to understand and put words to experiences over time.

Starting therapy is not about performing well.
It is about allowing yourself space to be supported.

One of the most common concerns people have before starting therapy is:
“What if I don’t know what to say?”

Many people come into therapy without clear words for what they are feeling. Sometimes there is only a sense that something feels heavy, confusing, overwhelming, or difficult to carry alone.

Therapy is not about saying things perfectly or knowing exactly where to begin. It is a space to explore thoughts, emotions, and experiences gradually, at your own pace.

You are allowed to begin exactly where you are.

Overthinking is not always about wanting control.

At times, it can reflect the mind attempting to create safety, certainty, or preparedness during periods of stress or uncertainty.

For some people, self-criticism can become so constant that it begins to feel factual.

Over time, these thoughts may shape how people see themselves, their relationships, and their sense of worth.

Support can help create greater awareness of these patterns and how they developed.

Emotions aren’t always easy to explain.

Sometimes they feel tangled, overwhelming, loud, confusing, or heavy all at once. 🌿

But when we slow down and make space to understand them, they can begin to feel a little less scary.

You don’t need to “fix” every emotion immediately. You don’t need to have all the answers. And you don’t need to judge yourself for what you’re feeling.

Awareness creates clarity.
Compassion creates safety.
And understanding yourself is part of healing. 🤍

The transition into parenthood can involve significant emotional and psychological adjustment.

Alongside moments of connection and care, there may also be experiences of overwhelm, anxiety, exhaustion, or shifts in identity. These responses are not uncommon during the perinatal and postnatal period.

At times, these experiences can feel difficult to explain or hold alone.

Perinatal and postnatal counselling may provide a supportive space to explore these changes, better understand emotional responses, and navigate this period with greater support and reflection over time.

Mother’s Day is often a time of recognition, but it can also bring a wide range of emotions. Joy, gratitude, grief, fatigue, and reflection can sit alongside one another.

We want to acknowledge the emotional weight that can come with care, motherhood, and family roles.

If this season feels more complex than celebratory, that experience is valid.

There isn’t one “right” way to feel on a day like this.

Wishing you a Mother’s Day that feels right for you.

There are many assumptions about group therapy that can make it feel unfamiliar or uncertain.

For some people, understanding what it actually involves can help reduce hesitation and make it feel more approachable.

Group therapy offers a different kind of space — one that includes connection, shared experiences, and guided support.

It may also be a more cost-effective option for those seeking ongoing support.
