A huge congratulations to the Ngaanyatjarra Warakurna Rangers who took home the trophy for most burrows during the 2025 Mulyamiji March surveys! Palyoooo, deadly work you mob! 🏆

Stay tuned for the winners of the 2026 trophy, coming soon!!

Mulyamiji March is a desert-wide monitoring event focussed on surveying for Great Desert Skink (also known as Tjakura, Tjalapa, Mulyamiji, Warrarna and Nampu). Rangers from across the desert use their expert tracking skills to march across the desert sands and find burrows, which allow them to track population trends in collaboration with scientists and the Federal Government.

The IDA is coordinating the implementation of priority actions in the Great Desert Skink Recovery Plan with support from the Australian Government's Saving Native Species Program and NESP Resilient Landscapes Hub. NESP is supported through funding from the Australian Government's National Environmental Science Program.

Skin sore? Sore throat? Get it checked early.

Diphtheria can affect the skin or the throat, and your clinic can test, treat, and check whether you or your family need a booster.

Have a yarn with your clinic.

For many Yarnangu, staying connected to family, community and Country is an important part of living well as they grow older.

In this video, Perri Waddell, one of our Clinical Aged Care Managers, shares how Wanarn Aged Care supports older people from across the Lands through residential aged care, respite services and ongoing support.

Wanarn Aged Care provides a place where Elders can receive the care they need while remaining connected to culture, family and community. It is also a service that works closely with communities across the Lands, supporting people and families as their care needs change over time.

As Perri explains, one of the great privileges of the role is building strong relationships with communities and supporting Yarnangu to live their best lives on the Lands.

Vic works across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands as a Social Worker, supporting communities and building connections with both community members and staff.

One of the things Vic enjoys most about the role is the opportunity to travel across the different communities on the Lands — meeting people, listening to stories and working alongside teams in each place.

No two days are the same, and each community brings its own people, experiences and strengths.

For Vic, working on the Lands is about relationships, connection and supporting people where they are.

Millianne has worked at the Day Centre in Blackstone | Papulankutja for more than 15 years, helping care for elderly people in community.

Born in Alice Springs, she came to Blackstone when she was five years old. This is the home of her grandfather and the place she has grown up and lived her life.

Through her work at the Day Centre, Millianne helps transport and care for elderly people, assists with washing and daily support, and helps deliver meals around community.

For Millianne, caring for older people is important — and so is staying connected to family, community and Country.

“This is home.”
