WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE NEWEST MEMBER TO OUR FAMILY!
🌳Would you be interested in volunteering for two hours per week for The Elder Tree?
For over 4 years we have been going strong with our amazing not-for-profit organisation. And there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes!

Our current amazing secretary Andrea Porter recently had to make the difficult decision to resign from the role, and we are super grateful for EVERYTHING she has done over the past 2 years. She has been a pillar of strength and consistency and we are sad to see her go (for now).

🌳We are looking for a rad new secretary/family member to help us make a difference in the herbal medicine education realms and to help us support the health of future generations!
🌳Must be trustworthy, consistent, reliable, a good communicator and comfortable with admin/technology
🌳Role involves about two hours per week volunteering and attending the quarterly meetings. Can be done remotely.

There are many perks to this role- although it is a volunteer position, there are certain opportunities such as attending certain herbal medicine workshops and events for free. Also you get the feel goods because you are helping us to create a better world.

We are always looking for donations of garden tools and landscaping resources and things like bark mulch, soil, garden edging, etc.

*** we are particularly trying to manifest compost, manure and mulch **

We also need items for our morning teas like knife, chopping board, cups, plates, plungers etc.

MORE ABOUT OUR GARDEN:
The Elder Tree Educational Medicine Garden is located in Mullumbimby, at the Mullum Gardens Eco-Hub alongside other powerful earth warriors and change makers such as Reforest Now, The Mullumbimby Community Gardens, The Men’s Shed, The Mullum Food Coop, and other powerful individuals and visionaries inspired to grow together and educate about growing sustainable food and medicine.

At The Elder Tree Educational Medicine Garden, we hold regular classes, courses, workshops and events and the medicine garden is an educational garden for students and practitioners. The medicine from the garden goes to volunteers and surplus will be gifted to those in need/sold at a low cost for fundraising.
The garden is a space to cultivate and evolve deep connection to and understanding of herbs. It is a small living library that will eventually become a botanical garden once we are on a larger patch of land.

We are so excited to be doing our part in building community resilience and coherence and connection.

I think we are about overdue to run a FUNdraising event in the Northern Rivers! These past ones only happened because generous people got in touch to offer venues, sound systems, musicians, artists etc.

What a year it has been! In this special Herbal Education episode, I step back from our usual conversations to share an overview of The Elder Tree as a whole, the milestones we’ve celebrated between the Spring Equinox of 2025 and this one, and what’s sprouting for the year ahead.

I begin with who we are: a national charity based on Bundjalung Country in Mullumbimby, supporting the many pathways of herbal medicine in Australia through grassroots herbal education, relocalising herbal medicine, and building stronger, more resilient communities.

Then we wander through the year together. The birth of The Elder Tree Newsletter and the wonderful teachers who write for it. Becoming a registered charity. The Lutruwita Herb Farm Tour, and the first seeds of the Australian Herb Growers Network. The official opening of our Educational Medicine Garden at the Mullum Gardens Eco Hub, our 4-4-4 birthday tree planting, and our first permanent structure. Our weaving with the wider Eco Hub community, big changes in our podcast family, and our ongoing commitment to Sociocracy and Nonviolent Communication.

Finally, I share what’s ahead: more herb farm tours, the creation of an Australian herb growers network, our Roots of Resilience program, Kaja Skraskova’s Herbal Creams Making Workshop, and many more exciting things in store.

Herbal Creams Making Hands-On In-Person Workshop facilitated by Kaja Skraskova from Herbae Thylacini.

Price of the workshop for registered Elder Tree members is $115, for all other participants $125.

Program
In the first half of this hands-on workshop, Kaja will expertly explain the theory behind emulsion making (mixing cream and water) and demo the whole process. I will make sure to share practical tips and dispel common misconceptions.

In the second half - the floor is yours: you will get the space, tools and ingredients to craft your own herbal creams and commit the process and skills to memory.

With 10 years of practical crafting experience and formal background in both, pharmacognosy and chemistry, Kaja is able to show herbal cream making from unique and practical perspective.

Broaden your herbal medicine repertoire
Move from making salves and balms for every skin ailment, to crafting more specific topical products.
Streamline your cream making and score a number of practical tips

From emulsification to preservation to safely working with herbs, you will gain the skills and demystify some of the complexities of making herbal creams.

Gain confidence
Making emulsions is notably more complex than making oil-based salves. But with the right approach, it is a totally learnable skill!

Tomorrow morning- come join us or stop by and say hi and see our beautiful medicine gardens!
Calling upon all creatives for The Elder Tree Creative Playing Bee:
Let's gather together in The Elder Tree Educational Medicine Garden and make signs and info boards, creative installations, sculptures etc etc

Some musicians can set the tone while we paint and carve and bring creativity and colour into our special space. This will be the first event to be held under our new structure that has just been build with recycled materials, so we will be celebrating that also!

Friday 9th Oct 9.30am
Mullum Gardens Eco-Hub.

Bring your instruments, paints, creative ideas. Lets bring some more colour, creativity and educational signs to our garden.
We would love also if people could bring food and drink contributions for a potluck lunch.
