Hey beautiful AAA community 💛
I’ve been a little quiet lately & just wanted to check back in properly!

The last 4 weeks have been incredibly heavy behind the scenes.....
Between ongoing issues surrounding legal guardianship, advocacy stress, systems that feel impossible to navigate & even Meta deciding my messages no longer deserve freedom 🫠… it’s been a lot!

One thing this season has reminded me of is just how isolating caring & advocating can feel when you’re carrying enormous decisions, protecting vulnerable people & trying to hold yourself together at the same time!

That’s exactly why spaces like our private carers community exist over at The Respite Room!

Not every battle can be fought publicly.
Not every story is safe to share openly.
And sometimes carers like us just need a safe space where we can finally exhale without judgement, screenshots, politics or fear....

If you’re a carer, support person, advocate, parent or someone walking the messy, exhausting, beautiful road of disability support & advocacy… come join us in The Respite Room 💛

A private space for honest conversations, support, venting, resources, laughter, tears & the kind of understanding you only get from people living it too!

Drop a 💛 below (because our messages still are offline) & we’ll point you in the right direction!

I’m still here.
Still fighting.
Just slightly battle-scarred & fuelled by caffeine & stubbornness ☕⚡

Things I see people miss after long-stay hospital admission....

Sounds strange to say… but it’s real!
I don’t mean people miss the hospital beds.
The fluorescent lights.
The constant beeping of machines.
The lack of sleep.
The feeling of your whole life being turned upside down overnight.
No one misses that....

But inside those walls… something different happens.
Your world gets stripped right back to survival.
And in that space, people are held.
You’ve got nurses checking in.
Doctors making plans.
Allied health coming through.
People explaining things.
People listening. Meetings....
Even in the chaos… there’s some weird feeling of structure!
There’s support.
There’s a team!

And then one day… you’re discharged!!!!
And just like that… it’s gone....

No roadmap.
No clear plan.
No consistent support.
Just a quiet, overwhelming question:
“What now?”

I see it all the time.
People leaving hospital after life-changing injuries & events…
They’re expected to just figure it out.
Figure out appointments.
Funding.
Equipment.
Therapies.
Daily living.
Their new identity.
All while grieving the life they had before!

And this is where a huge gap lives.....
The space between hospital & the NDIS!

That in-between space?
It’s where people fall.
Not because they don’t want to move forward.
Not because they’re not trying.
But because there’s no one catching them!

We say “they’ll get NDIS support”…
But that process takes time.
Assessments.
Reports.
Applications.
Waiting.
And in that waiting… people are at their most vulnerable.

Families burn out.
People deteriorate.
Opportunities are lost.
And the hardest part?
In hospital, they felt supported.
Out here… they feel forgotten.
And that’s a big problem.....

People don’t struggle because they’re unwilling.
They struggle because there’s a gap big enough to swallow them whole.

So what do we do about it?
We step in earlier.
We bridge the gap.
We don’t wait for a plan to be approved before we start caring.
Because support shouldn’t start after the paperwork is done.
It should start when the person needs it most.

Right there… in the middle of the unknown.

If you’re a family going through this right now – you’re not alone.
If you’re a professional who sees this gap too – let’s talk.
Because this space… this in-between…
This is where real change needs to happen!!!
And this is exactly where we need to show up 💜

We’re proud to be supporting Hike4Life, raising funds for youth mental health.

Young people today are facing increasing challenges & access to safe, supportive spaces has never been more important!

This initiative helps create opportunities for connection, resilience-building & meaningful support.

We’re walking to raise awareness, reduce stigma & contribute to real change.

If you’d like to support this cause, whether through donations or sharing this message, we would greatly appreciate it 🙏

Together, we can make sure no young person feels alone ❤️

I’m taking on Hike4Life to support youth mental health and su***de prevention in rural and regional communities. I’d really appreciate your support!

Did you know communication is about much more than words?

In fact, a large part of human communication is non-verbal!

This includes things like:

👀 Eye contact
🙂 Facial expressions
🤲 Gestures
🧍 Body posture
➡️ Pointing or directing attention
🤝 Touch
📱 Visual supports or communication devices

For many people living with disability, brain injury & autism, non-verbal communication may be their primary way of expressing needs, feelings or choices!

But here’s the interesting part…..
Even people who speak fluently rely on non-verbal communication every single day!!!

Think about it:
• A smile when you're happy
• Looking away when you're overwhelmed
• A thumbs up for approval
• Crossing your arms when something feels uncomfortable

When support workers & carers learn to recognise these signals, we begin to understand the person beyond their words!

Communication is about listening with our eyes, our patience, our presence but most importantly our hearts ❤️

Sometimes the most meaningful messages are the quiet ones......
