Throughout June, communities across Australia come together to celebrate Pride, recognising the rich diversity, achievements and contributions of the LGBTIQA+ community.

Pride celebrations in Australia have a long history, dating back to the late 1970s, including the first Sydney Gay and Le***an Mardi Gras in 1978. Today, Pride Month is marked by parades, festivals, cultural events, parties and community gatherings right across the country.

Whether you're looking to connect, learn, celebrate or show your support, there are plenty of ways to get involved this June.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and free from violence - but sadly, that’s still not the reality for many LGBTQIA+ people.

More than 60% of LGBTQIA+ people will experience domestic, family or intimate partner violence in their lifetime, yet so many victims and survivors still go unseen and unheard.

Today, May 28, marks LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day - a day created in Australia that’s now recognised around the world. It’s about raising awareness, increasing visibility, supporting survivors, and helping people know they’re not alone.

What started here in Australia is now acknowledged by hundreds of organisations and government departments across 20 countries, including the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, India and more.

National Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June) is a chance for all Australians to reflect on our shared history, celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and achievements, and think about how we can each play a part in building a more united future.

This year’s theme, All In, is a reminder that reconciliation takes all of us. It’s not something we can sit back and watch happen - real change comes when we actively listen, learn, speak up, and show up every day. All In calls on every Australian to share that responsibility and commit to meaningful action.

At its core, reconciliation is about stronger relationships, greater understanding, and creating a better future together - for all Australians.

Today we recognise National Sorry Day - a time to reflect on the strength, resilience and lived experiences of Stolen Generations survivors, their families and communities. It’s also an opportunity to acknowledge the ongoing impact that forced child removal continues to have on First Nations children, young people, families and communities today.

At headspace, we believe every First Nations young person deserves access to culturally safe, inclusive and healing-centred support.

If today feels heavy or brings up difficult emotions, support is available. By honouring Dolly and every voice that has been silenced by bullying, you can be part of the kindness movement. And together, we won’t stop until the bullying stops.
• Choose kindness, always
• Speak up when you see someone being treated unfairly
• Support others who feel alone, unsafe, or unheard
• Use words and actions to lift people up, not tear them down
• Help create a world where everyone feels safe, seen, and valued
• Help make school, community and online spaces safe and inclusive for everyone
