When reading books with your toddler, remember you don’t have to just read all the words in the book 📕
Swipe to find out our favourite ways to make a book more interactive ✨

Describe how characters look, point out hair colour, clothing, and any accessories you can see 👑🧢👓🌂👠

Model phrases to describe the actions in the pictures, like “The cat is licking” 🐈, Try adding gestures to model the actions too, like jumping while saying “the frog is jumping.” 🐸

Use cut outs or toys that resemble the characters in the book to act out the story. Try using a teddy bear when talking about a bear in a book 🧸

Give characters new names, you can make them your child’s name, your name, or silly names!

This week SIO said a massive thank you and a bittersweet goodbye to Tiana to commemorate all her impactful work at Sound it out over the years.
She has been with the team since 2022, first as an AHA, then a speech pathologist, and we are so grateful of all of her amazing work with clients, their families and the team every day since then!
We wish her all the best in her new chapter and exciting 🏠💍

We wanted to share a favourite activity from our speech pathologist, Mario, this week!

How to do it: use spoons, pipe cleaners, wool, beads and googly eyes to make spoon people! Cut out eyes, limbs, clothes and hair, and spend the session making a whole village of people ⭐️

Goals you can target: this activity is perfect for expressive (and receptive!) language goals, spend the session targeting the use of new vocabulary, procedural language or multistep instructions… THEN… use your spoon people for imaginative play scenes! The possibilities are endless 🙌🙌
