I spent years believing that being strong was my only option.
A few years ago, I got a Wonder Woman tattoo.
Not because I thought I was Wonder Woman, but because I needed a constant reminder to stay strong. At the time, I genuinely believed that was the only way I was going to keep going.
Keep showing up. Keep smiling. Keep working. Keep looking after everyone and everything else.
Whatever was happening on the inside, I just had to keep going.
Yesterday I wrote about how we track everything in our lives except how we're actually feeling.
For a long time, I knew exactly how I was feeling. I just didn't think I had the luxury of doing anything about it. I got really good at functioning while not actually feeling okay. Looking back, I realise how much pressure I put on myself to be strong all the time.
I thought strength meant holding everything together, not letting things get to me and finding a way to push through, no matter what but I've since learnt that strength can look very different.
Sometimes it's admitting you're struggling. Sometimes it's asking for help. Sometimes it's allowing yourself to feel something you've spent years trying not to.
You can be strong and still need support.
You can be capable and still feel overwhelmed.
You can be the person everyone relies on and still need someone in your corner.
I still love my Wonder Woman tattoo. But these days, it reminds me that I don't have to be Wonder Woman every day. Neither do you 💙
