Feel Good Friday - Allen & Ronnie! 💙💚🎉
For over four decades, a classic 1960s Australian Roebuck rocking horse has been a cherished centrepiece of family memories. In its early days, the horse was in beautiful condition, providing endless hours of joy and laughter as the grandchildren rode it into countless imaginary adventures.
Then came a sudden twist in its history. One day, Allen Smith’s father-in-law decided to give the horse a fresh coat of brown paint and that was the end of its original look. Despite the sudden makeover, Allen always held a quiet determination to see the horse returned to its former glory. After his father-in-law passed away, Allen took the rocking horse into his care, promising that he would one day restore it.
Life eventually brought new challenges. Allen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 59. However, a diagnosis did not mean the end of his dreams. Thanks to funding from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), the family engaged Able 2 for support, which brought an extraordinary person into Allen’s life: his support person, Ronnie Britton.
Ronnie turned out to be the perfect match for Allen. The two formed an instant, deep bond, sharing a mutual camaraderie and spirit. Together, they decided it was finally time to fulfil Allen's long-held promise.
The restoration journey began in October 2025. Working side-by-side over the course of nearly a year, Allen and Ronnie painstakingly poured their time, patience, and care into the project. By late September 2026, the transformation was complete.
The result is an absolute credit to both of them. Through their hard work, they have stripped away the years of brown paint and breathed life back into a beautiful piece of family history. The family extends their deepest, most heartfelt thanks to Ronnie for his incredible support, dedication, and friendship. Thanks to Ronnie and Allen's teamwork, this beloved Roebuck rocking horse finally has the vibrant life it always deserved, ready to be cherished for generations to come.
