Your brain is only ~1% of your body weight - but it burns over 20% of your energy. 🧠⚡

That means your mental health is deeply tied to your energy production. Inside your cells, your mitochondria make that energy - and when they're not working well, your brain doesn't get what it needs.

Here's where anxiety comes in. Research shows a two-way relationship:

Anxiety can impair mitochondrial function
Poor mitochondrial function can drive anxiety

➡️ A self-perpetuating cycle of low energy and heightened anxiety.

This is why supporting mitochondrial health matters for mental wellbeing. But not everyone has the same mitochondrial capacity - your genetics determine how efficiently you produce energy, how well you handle oxidative stress, and which pathways may be underperforming.

Don't guess. Test. When you understand your genetics, you can target the exact factors affecting your brain energy - and help break the cycle. 👉 Follow iDNA Health for more on the gene-brain connection.

iDNA Health is the 2026 Joondalup Business Award winner for the Wellness Industry category.

We’re thrilled and incredibly grateful to take home the Wellness Industry Award at this year’s Joondalup Business Awards.

A heartfelt thank you to the Joondalup Business Association for the recognition, and for everything they do to support small and medium businesses across our community. This year saw a record number of entries and over 270 guests on the awards night, a real reflection of how many brilliant local businesses call this region home. To be recognised among them means a great deal to us.

This award belongs to our whole team, and to every patient who has trusted us with their health journey. It’s a reminder of why we do what we do... bringing personalised, genetics-led care to the people of Perth, and helping more of you take the guesswork out of your health.

Here’s to what’s next. 🙌

Is glyphosate really the cause of your gut issues? Let's talk about it. 🌾

We're seeing a lot of comments on our gut posts blaming glyphosate for everything - and discounting key factors like food intolerances. Here's the reality.

Glyphosate targets the Shikimate Pathway - one not found in humans, but present in some of our gut bacteria. So yes, there's biological plausibility that it could affect the microbiome.

BUT 👇
❗ There isn't yet strong human evidence that it causes gut disease
❗ Most research is lab or animal-based

Glyphosate may play a role - but it's not the whole story. The mistake is blaming ONE factor. Gut health is driven by many: genetics, diet, microbiome diversity and immune function.

Bottom line: don't guess. Identify the problem, then treat it - and genetics is a powerful tool for pinpointing the real risk factors. 👉 Save this for the next time you see a one-cause claim.

Fertility starts with DNA quality - not just hormones. 🧬👶

When we talk fertility, most people think hormones. But the real foundation is the DNA quality in the egg and s***m - because that's what actually gets passed on to your baby. Damaged DNA means lower fertility, higher miscarriage risk, and long-term health implications for your child.

Here's what most couples don't know: it takes about 90 days for s***m to develop, and about 120 days for an egg. So if you're trying to conceive, the 90-120 day window before conception is critical. It's when you can:

- Improve DNA integrity
- Reduce oxidative stress
- Optimise mitochondrial function

Our Fertility & Preconception Care Program screens and targets the genetics that impact egg and s***m quality - so you can give your baby the best possible start. 👉 Planning ahead? Send this to someone who needs to see it.

Genes load the gun and the environment pulls the trigger? That's only half the story - and the half most people miss. 🧬

Yes, some conditions are autosomal - inherit the gene, develop the condition (like Huntington's or Cystic Fibrosis). But that's not what clinical genetics for health optimisation is about.

Your genes don't just determine disease risk. They determine function:

- How well your enzymes work
- How efficiently you detoxify
- How you absorb and activate nutrients
- How your cells produce energy

These aren't "maybe" effects - they're real, measurable biochemical differences. And once you understand your genetic function, you can intervene with precision: targeted nutrition, personalised supplementation, and lifestyle strategies that actually match your biology.

The goal? Optimise function early - before symptoms, before disease. 👉 Follow iDNA Health for more on how your DNA shapes your health.

Heavy metals don’t just accumulate in the environment - they can accumulate in the body too.

Metals such as lead, arsenic and cadmium can increase oxidative stress, creating free radicals that damage cells, mitochondria and DNA.

Your body has antioxidant enzymes designed to protect you.

But here’s the problem…

Heavy metals don’t just increase oxidative stress. They can also impair the very antioxidant systems responsible for defending against it.

Your genetics influence how efficiently these protective enzymes work, meaning some people are naturally more vulnerable than others.

That’s why prevention is so important.

Reducing your exposure to heavy metals is often more effective than trying to deal with the consequences after they’ve accumulated.

In this video, we’re joined by Water Analytics to discuss how water filtration systems can help reduce heavy metal exposure and why not all filtration systems are created equal.

Personalised health isn’t just about understanding your DNA.

It’s also about reducing the environmental stressors your body has to deal with every day.

“Your Brain, Your Blueprint: Using Genetics to Stay Ahead of Cognitive Decline”

Cognitive decline isn’t simply something to wait for and hope to avoid. Your DNA holds real insight into the factors that influence brain health as you age - and understanding your blueprint means you can act early, not react late.

Come hear how Clinical Genetics is changing the way we think about ageing well. 👋

📍 Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, Pavilion 4-5
🗓 Fri 31 July - Sat 1 Aug, 9.30am-4.00pm

Detox isn’t as simple as drinking juice or sitting in a sauna.

Your body’s ability to detoxify is driven by a complex network of enzymes - and how well those enzymes work is influenced by your genetics.

That’s why the same detox program can produce very different results from one person to the next.

If your detoxification pathways aren’t functioning optimally, simply mobilising toxins may not provide the outcome you’re hoping for.

Personalised health starts with understanding:
• your detoxification capacity
• which toxins or heavy metals you may be more susceptible to
• how to best support your body’s natural detoxification systems

Just as importantly, prevention matters.

Reducing your exposure to environmental toxins through cleaner food, water and lifestyle choices is just as valuable as supporting your body’s ability to process them.

Before starting your next detox, understand how your body works first.

Because the best health strategies are always personalised.

You’ve probably heard the term “forever chemicals.”

But why are they called that?

PFAS (“forever chemicals”) are extremely persistent in both the environment and the human body. Once exposed, they can remain in your body for years, making it important to reduce ongoing exposure wherever possible.

One of the biggest sources of exposure can be everyday water.

Your genetics also play a role.

Some people have genetic variants that reduce their ability to eliminate these compounds efficiently, particularly through the kidneys. This means the same level of exposure may affect people very differently.

That’s why prevention is so important.

Rather than relying on your body to deal with ongoing exposure, reducing the amount of contaminants entering your system is often the best strategy.

In this video, we’re joined by Water Analytics, who explain how certified water filtration systems can help reduce contaminants, including PFAS, before they reach your body.

Personalised health isn’t just about understanding your genes.

It’s also about understanding your environment.
