Focus Care is going international!

Our CEO, Christina Harlamb, had the privilege of working in Beijing alongside colleague and friend Anne Kelly to deliver our course, 'Montessori Aged Care in Philosophy and Practice', sharing Australian experience with aged care workers from all over China. They were joined by Susan Montano, our GM of Allied Health.

The students were enthusiastic, engaged and a joy to work with! We look forward to running more of these courses in future.

🎗️ World Cerebral Palsy Day

Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood, and no two people experience it the same way. It can affect movement, muscle tone and coordination in different ways for every individual.

Today, we're celebrating the strength, individuality and achievements of people living with CP, and the families and supporters beside them. We're also reaffirming our commitment to a community where accessible, person-centred support is the norm.

At Focus Care, we're proud to support people living with CP to work towards their own goals, in their own way. đź’™

We'd love to hear from you. Share your story, or celebrate someone in your life living with CP, in the comments below. 👇

We invest heavily in the training and development of our Support Workers.

Every Support Worker is personally selected, thoroughly vetted and comprehensively trained to provide safe, high-quality support tailored to the individual needs of our clients. All members of our team undergo the required background checks before providing care.

But our training doesn’t stop there. Our Support Workers receive ongoing training and professional development throughout their time with Focus Care, helping them stay up to date with best-practice approaches, specialised care and medical support.

We go beyond the standard training requirements, equipping our team with the knowledge, skills and confidence to support people with a wide range of needs.

Looking for support or have any questions? Reach out to us! Where here to help.

Good nutrition becomes even more important as we age, but it doesn't need to be complicated. 🍎

Smaller appetites, medication interactions and reduced mobility in the kitchen can all make it harder to eat well. A few simple habits go a long way: keeping meals high in protein to support muscle strength, staying on top of hydration (thirst cues weaken with age), and choosing nutrient-dense snacks between meals rather than relying on three big ones.

Our support workers can help with meal planning, prep, and making sure nutrition stays part of the daily routine — not an afterthought.

What's one meal you always look forward to?

There are many misconceptions about dementia — from thinking it’s simply a part of getting older to assuming memory loss is always the first sign.

Here are seven facts that might surprise you, and hopefully help start a few more conversations along the way.

Because it’s time to talk about dementia.

21/09/2026

It’s time to talk about dementia 💜

Almost half a million Australians are living with dementia today, and more than 1.7 million people are involved in caring for someone with dementia.

That’s a lot of people, families and carers navigating something that can be difficult to understand and even harder to talk about.

Sometimes we don’t know what to say. We worry about saying the wrong thing. Or we might think changes in memory and thinking are simply a normal part of getting older.

But talking about dementia matters.

When we start the conversation, we can help people recognise the signs earlier, feel less alone and find the support they need.

By talking openly about dementia, we can:

đź’ś Build understanding and awareness
đź’ś Help connect people and families with the right support
đź’ś Challenge the stigma and misconceptions around dementia

This Dementia Action Week, join us in making space for more conversations, more understanding and more support!

Why having the same support team matters.

Familiar faces can make a big difference in care. đź’™

When you have the same support workers coming regularly, you get to know each other. Routines become easier, trust builds, and support starts to feel more personal.

Over time, your support worker gets to know your preferences, your routine and the little things that help make your day a good one.

That consistency doesn’t just happen. Our scheduling team works hard to keep the right people around you.

Has having a familiar face in your care team made a difference for you?

Celebrating R U OK? Day — every day. 💛

Yesterday, the Focus Care team came together to mark R U OK? Day and remind ourselves of the importance of checking in with the people around us.

A simple conversation can make a really meaningful difference to someone who’s having a difficult time. Whether it’s a colleague, participant, friend or family member, taking the time to ask “Are you OK?” and truly listen can help someone feel seen, supported and less alone.

At Focus Care, caring for people is at the heart of everything we do - not just on R U OK? Day, but every day.

Let’s keep the conversation going. 💛

A change is coming to personal care under the Support at Home program.

From 1 October 2026, approved personal care services - including support with showering, dressing, personal hygiene and non-clinical continence management - will move into the Clinical Supports contribution category.

For eligible participants, this means no participant contribution will apply to approved personal care services from 1 October 2026.

The change means older Australians receiving approved personal care can access these essential services without a participant contribution, helping support their ability to live safely and independently at home.

Importantly, there is no new assessment requirement as a result of this change. You still need to be assessed and approved for personal care as part of your support plan.

If you're unsure how the change may affect your current care, speak with your provider or My Aged Care.

We're here to help you understand what’s changing and what it means for you.

💜 World Alzheimer’s Month | September 2026 💜

This September, we're joining people around the world to raise awareness and encourage greater understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and all forms of dementia.

This year’s campaign focuses on early diagnosis, with the message: “The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters.” An earlier diagnosis can help people and their families access information, care and support, plan ahead and make informed decisions about their future.

Dementia is a growing issue in Australia. An estimated 446,500 Australians are living with dementia in 2026, and dementia is now the leading cause of death in Australia. Around 1.7 million people are involved in caring for someone living with dementia, meaning its impact extends far beyond the person diagnosed.

How can you help?
~ Learning more about dementia and the importance of early diagnosis
~ Starting open and supportive conversations about memory and cognitive changes
~ Asking questions and seeking information when something doesn't feel right
~ Sharing trusted resources with family, friends and your community
~ Supporting people living with dementia, as well as their families and carers
~ Helping challenge the stigma and misconceptions surrounding dementia

Let’s keep the conversation going! 💜
