Today is World Stroke Day 🧠

Stroke can change life in an instant — but recovery doesn't stop at the hospital door. For many of the people we support, the real work of rebuilding independence, confidence and connection happens in the months and years after.

Every stroke journey looks different, and so does the support that helps it along. If you or someone you love is living with the effects of stroke, we're here to help make everyday life feel more possible again. đź’›

Meet Riccardo 🇮🇹

Riccardo brings warmth, fun and a whole lot of heart to everything he does. With meaningful experience supporting people living with dementia, he has a gift for meeting each person exactly where they are — with patience, sensitivity and genuine care.

When he's not with clients, you'll find him in the kitchen, at the beach, or studying physiotherapy at USC — always growing, always giving a little more.

We're lucky to have Riccardo on the Heart in Hand team.

We hear this one a lot, and it’s a great question to ask any provider.

It starts with our people. Every member of our team is carefully selected and trained to give support that is compassionate, respectful and skilled, especially for people living with neurological conditions like Parkinson’s, MS, dementia, MND and stroke.

From there, we work closely with you and your family to shape every part of your care around your preferences, needs and daily routines. The result is support that feels comfortable, protects your dignity and helps you stay in control of your life.

Got a question you’d like us to answer next? Drop it in the comments or send us a DM. 📩

What do Parkinson's, MS, dementia, MND and stroke all have in common? They're all neurological conditions — and they can affect people who were, until recently, completely independent.

That's part of what makes this work so important to us. Many of the people we support led full, busy lives before their diagnosis, and our role is to help them keep as much independence, dignity and connection as possible — for as long as possible.

Over the coming months we'll be sharing more about the conditions we support and what quality care really looks like. If you or someone you love is navigating a new diagnosis, we're here. đź’›

When something goes wrong for one of our clients, our team doesn't call a 1300 number — they call May, personally.

That's what working at Heart in Hand looks like: a small, hands-on team where you're genuinely supported, not just another employee number.

If you're a support worker who wants to work somewhere your effort is seen and valued, we'd love to hear from you.

It's National Carers Week đź’•

This year's theme is "Making Carers Visible," and it's a good one. So many carers don't even call themselves that. They just think of it as being a partner, a parent, a friend, doing what needs to be done. The 3am checks, the coordinated appointments, holding everything together while still showing up with love.

If that's you, we see the work you do, even when no one else does, including you.

And if you know someone quietly doing this? This week's a good time to check in on them, not just the person they're caring for. Sometimes that's all it takes.

To every family carer connected to Heart in Hand: thank you. This week, and always, we're here to share the load with you. đź’›

❤️🌙 MS Moonlight Walk 2026 ❤️

Last night, I was proud to take part in the first year the event included a run alongside the traditional walk in Brisbane, supporting our amazing clients living with neurological conditions. Every step was for them! ❤️

A special shout-out to our beautiful client Suzie and our incredible staff member Cecilie, who walked at Kings Beach on the Sunshine Coast with their team, the Wobbly Boots. ❤️

At Heart In Hand Support Services, we’re proud to stand beside our clients and support this important cause. ❤️

Today is World Mental Health Day 🧠💛

Supporting someone with a neurological condition — or loving someone who does — can take a real toll on mental health, for clients, families and our own team alike. It's okay to not be okay, and it's always okay to ask for help.

If you're a carer feeling stretched thin, please know you don't have to hold it all together alone. Reach out to us, to your GP, or to Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Sunshine Coast is also hosting the Moonlight Walk today — a beautiful way to show up for mental health in our community. 💛

Trust isn't something we ask for — it's something we earn, one small thing at a time.

Sometimes that means noticing the bin needs to go out. Sometimes it means staying an extra few minutes for a chat. It's rarely the big, obvious things — it's the small ones, done consistently, that build real trust.

That's the standard we hold ourselves to at Heart in Hand: kind, reliable, and always going a little further. đź’›

"Today is International Day of Older Persons đź’›

Ageing well isn't about slowing down — it's about having the right support to keep living life the way you want to. Whether that's staying in your own home, keeping up a favourite routine, or simply having someone to share a cuppa with, dignity and independence should never have an age limit.

To every older person we're lucky enough to support — thank you for teaching us so much about resilience, humour and what really matters. 💛"
