At Dietitians Unite 2026, one message stood out above all others: while the science of weight management continues to evolve, patients still benefit most from coordinated, person-centred care.

From discussions around metabolic health and nutritional adequacy to multidisciplinary case studies exploring real-world patient complexity, the conference highlighted something many healthcare professionals already know: patients rarely fit neatly into one box.

Effective care isn't just about having the latest evidence. It's about communication, collaboration, and helping patients navigate the many factors that influence their health.

In our latest blog, we share key insights from Dietitians Unite 2026 and explore why communication, shared decision-making, and multidisciplinary care remain central to achieving meaningful patient outcomes.

Whether you're a health professional, a patient, or simply interested in the future of weight management, we hope these reflections spark conversation about what good healthcare looks like in practice.

"My arms really bother me. I won't really wear tops that show anything above the elbow because it makes me feel so unattractive. But, this also gets so HOT in summer that it's a struggle ..."

This is just one breakthrough that an Enlighten Me member shared 💡

You see, weight loss is not always simple as ‘eat less, move more’.

Often there is a need to take a deeper look as to the underlying drivers in a person’s individual situation.

✨ Perimenopause. Weight gain. GLP-1s. Let’s talk nuance.

This reel is a snippet from a powerful conversation between women’s health doctor and former Olympian Dr Jana Pittman and GP & Founder of Enlighten Me, Dr Angela Kwong.

Many women hit perimenopause and think:
“Something's changed ... why is it that the things that used to work, don't seem to work anymore?”

In this episode, they unpack what’s really happening beneath the surface - from hormonal shifts and emerging insulin resistance, to why BMI alone doesn’t tell the full story, and where weight management medications may (or may not) fit into care.

🎙️ They discuss:
• Why perimenopause can feel like a metabolic turning point
• How to think beyond BMI and focus on long-term health
• What GLP-1s actually do in the body (beyond appetite)
• When these treatments may considered be short-term supports, not lifelong solutions
• Protein, muscle preservation and realistic nutrition strategies
If you’ve felt confused, frustrated or blamed for changes in your body - this conversation offers clarity, compassion and an evidence-based perspective.

Tomorrow, joins Melbourne fashion stylist Grace Lam on her meNOTpause Instagram platform - a space dedicated to more honest conversations about menopause, identity, and the parts of women's health that have too often been dismissed or left unsaid.

Together, they'll be having a candid conversation about menopause, weight, health, and the changing expectations women carry through midlife.

These conversations matter. Not because women need more pressure or perfection, but because they deserve to feel informed, understood, and supported as their bodies and lives evolve.

At the recent Women’s Health Essentials in Primary Care conference, Dr. Angela Kwong shared an important reminder:

Weight management is not simply about “eating less”.

In this case, the patient was only consuming around 70% of her daily nutritional requirements.

Her protein intake?
88g per day - below her target of 111g.

And this is where a more specific, clinically guided nutrition strategy matters.

Instead of further restriction, the focus shifts to optimisation:
✔️ Increasing protein intake to support muscle and prevent sarcopenia
✔️ Improving fibre for metabolic and gut health
✔️ Reintroducing key nutrients including adequate fruit intake
✔️ Correcting deficiencies, such as low vitamin D, particularly relevant in perimenopause

Because under-fuelling the body can work against progress.

Especially during periods of hormonal change.

Sustainable weight management isn’t about doing less.

It’s about giving the body what it needs - in the right amounts, at the right time.
