Eastside Speech Solutions

Eastside Speech Solutions A vibrant Speech Pathology practice in Randwick, Sydney. Eastside Speech Solutions is passionate about helping people to communicate better.

Every day we witness how lives are transformed when a person's ability to speak and understand dramatically improves. One in seven Australians experience some form of communication disability during their lifetime. Developing and maintaining the ability to communicate is a journey we all take starting as a toddler first mimicking our parents, to a preschooler learning to speak smoothly and correct

ly without stuttering, then as a school aged child we begin to read and speak with confidence through to becoming an adult who relies on clear speech for work and play. Better communication is what we are all about! The team at Eastside Speech understand that sometimes the journey to good communication is not easy and believe that effective, positive speech therapy can be the key to improved confidence at school, in work and in relationships. We offer a wide range of speech therapies to assist with literacy, difficulties saying sounds correctly (pronunciation), stuttering, apraxia, language comprehension or language delay, accent modification and accent reduction as well as working with those suffering communication impairment as a result of brain injury, stroke or other neurological conditions. Eastside Speech Solutions understands that adults and children are different and we tailor our therapy sessions to accommodate individual's needs and abilities. The team's experience allows us to focus our speech therapy to support and develop good communication regardless of whether we are helping adults or preschoolers, native speakers or clients from overseas. Our clients reap the benefits of the teamwork of a group of therapists with a broad range of experience. Completing home practice for speech sounds is so important to help progress the positive outcomes for your child.

Try practising the sound(s) with them at home using a mirror 🪞 This allows your child to visually see if their facial positioning is correct prior to producing the sound 👄

It also adds to your modelling of the sound and the verbal instructions of facial positioning that you give your child 💙

📚✨ Book reading = language goldmine! Reading with your child isn’t just about the story… it’s one of the BEST ways to support their speech and language development!

Here’s how to make the most out of book time:

👉 Follow your child’s lead
Let them choose the book, turn the pages, and linger on what interests them.

👉 Keep it simple
Use short, meaningful phrases (e.g., “big dog!”, “he’s running!”)

👉 Pause & wait
Give your child time to look, point, or say something — communication starts here!

👉 Ask less, comment more
Instead of lots of questions, try describing what you see.

👉 Repeat, repeat, repeat
Repetition helps build understanding and confidence.

💡You don’t need to finish the whole book — even a few pages of shared attention is powerful!
Save this post for your next storytime 💛

Pretend play isn’t just fun—it’s a powerful way to build communication skills in children 🎭✨

When children engage in imaginative play (like playing “shops,” “doctors,” or “family”), they naturally:
🗣️ Use new words and expand their vocabulary
🔄 Practice conversations and turn-taking
📖 Develop storytelling and sequencing skills
💛 Explore different roles, emotions, and perspectives
🌍 Strengthen understanding of language in real-life contexts

Parents can join in the play, model language, ask open-ended questions like “What happens next?” 🤔, and gently expand on what your child says 🧠💬

These everyday interactions create rich, meaningful opportunities for language growth!

Autumn is here… and so are new opportunities to grow! 🍂✨ As the leaves begin to fall, it’s the perfect time to help your child turn over a new leaf with their communication skills. Here are some easy ways to support your child’s communication skills this Autumn:

Pronunciation / Speech Sounds
🍂🚶‍♀️ Go on a leaf hunt and practise target sounds as you walk (e.g. “l-l-leaf”, “r-r-red”, “c-c-crunch”)

Vocabulary Building
👀👂🖐️ Talk about what you can see, hear, and feel (e.g. crisp, chilly, golden, branch, fluttering, pile)

Grammar / Sentences
Model longer sentences:
🍃 “The leaves are falling.”
🍁 “We found three big leaves.”
🤸‍♂️ “I am jumping in the pile.”

Social Skills
At the park, practise:
👋 Saying hello to other children
😊 Asking, “Can I play too?”
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Taking turns collecting leaves

Listening & Following Direction
🌳“Find a small yellow leaf”
🏃‍♂️ “Jump twice, then run to the tree!”

🗣️ Practice asking questions (“Does your person have glasses?”)
👂 Build listening skills
💬 Work on describing (hair, features, accessories)
🧠 Strengthen reasoning and problem-solving
🤝 Encourage turn-taking and social skills

Simple game, BIG learning 💛 Give it a try at home!
