Professor Scolyer was an extraordinary clinician, researcher, and advocate whose contributions to melanoma diagnosis, treatment, and research have transformed the lives of countless patients around the world. As skin cancer doctors, we admired and looked up to his dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to improving outcomes for those affected by melanoma.
His pioneering work through the Melanoma Institute Australia helped revolutionise melanoma care and provided hope where little previously existed. His influence extended far beyond research and medicine; he inspired generations of clinicians, researchers, and patients through his leadership, humility, and courage.
Even while facing his own illness, Professor Scolyer continued to advance medical knowledge and inspire others with remarkable strength and determination. His legacy will endure through the lives he saved, the scientific advances he championed, and the many healthcare professionals who continue to follow the path he helped create.
Our thoughts are with his wife Katie, his children, colleagues, friends, and the entire melanoma community at this difficult time.
