This NAIDOC Week, we join communities across Australia in celebrating 50 Years of NAIDOC – The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the rich cultures, histories and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, while reflecting on the contributions of Elders, leaders and communities who have worked to improve the health, wellbeing and opportunities of First Nations Australians.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which our health service operates and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country, culture and community.

As a rural health service, we are committed to providing care that is welcoming, respectful and culturally safe for everyone. We know that understanding and respect help build stronger relationships, healthier communities and better health outcomes.

If you're looking to get involved locally during NAIDOC Week, consider attending one of the community events:
• Yindyamarra Fireside Oration (9 July, 5.30–7.00 pm) – Hosted by Charles Sturt University at the Albury-Wodonga campus, featuring Joshua Gilbert speaking on 60 Long Years of Agricultural Truth-Telling, with Distinguished Professor Stan Grant as MC.
• Wodonga Water Tower Illumination (4–14 July) – See the water tower illuminated in red in recognition of NAIDOC Week and the enduring cultures of First Nations peoples.
• Albury Wodonga NAIDOC Main Event (9 July 11am to 4pm) – A community celebration at Gateway Lakes featuring cultural activities, market stalls, food and family entertainment.
• For the full calendar of cultural workshops, art exhibitions and film screenings, follow the Albury Wodonga NAIDOC Committee and AlburyCity pages.

This NAIDOC Week, we encourage everyone to take the opportunity to learn more about the history, cultures and continuing contributions of First Nations peoples, and to celebrate the strength, resilience and legacy that continue to shape Australia today.

Our residents had a wonderful day celebrating the 70th anniversary of Tallangatta’s relocation.

It was heartwarming to see the community come together for such a special milestone, but the biggest highlight was watching our residents' faces light up as they enjoyed rides in the beautiful classic cars.

A heartfelt thank you to the event organisers, the classic car owners, volunteers, and everyone who shared a smile or lent a helping hand. Your generosity made the day truly memorable and ensured our residents enjoyed a seamless and unforgettable experience.

Tallangatta Health Service is seeking an experienced Work Health & Safety Coordinator to support the delivery of a safe, compliant, and healthy workplace. Reporting to the Quality & Risk Manager, this role partners closely with leaders and staff to provide expert advice, lead safety initiatives, manage workplace risk, and support continuous improvement.

This is a permanent part time position based onsite at 0.4-0.6EFT, with the flexibility to negotiate working arrangements. The role is currently graded at HS3.

Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS (or equivalent) and 5 years’ experience in a WHS role required.

Starting Thursday 9 July, Tallangatta Health Service will be hosting a monthly legal service clinic, provided by Hume Riverina Community Legal Service (HRCLS).

HRCLS partner with community service organisations, like THS, to provide free, holistic legal support to people experiencing disadvantage across North East Victoria and the Southern Riverina. The service assists with a broad range of issues including family violence, fines, credit and debt, consumer and government complaints, and victim of crime matters, supporting individuals to better understand and manage their legal challenges.

Sessions will be held from 10am to 2pm in the My Community Home Care (MCHC) building on the second Thursday of each month.

Tallangatta Health Service, in partnership with Gateway Health, is running an information session focusing on mental health and challenges in communities recovering from emergencies such as bushfires.

Although the session is aimed at health and community professionals, other emergency workers and community members will benefit from the information provided.

The sessions will provide insights into areas such as understanding common reactions to trauma and supporting wellbeing, presented by Dr Rob Gordon, an experienced consultant in psychosocial recovery with over 40 years' experience supporting communities after traumatic events such as bushfires, floods and cyclones.

The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and afternoon tea.
