Budget Day!!
Today was all about practising our money skills, learning about budgets and at times making difficult choices about which 'want' was greater and which 'want' we could go without.
Next budget day skills group have requested the option to earn money as well as spend it.

Another amazing day exploring our local community.
First stop Freeling for a coffee.
Then off to Kapunda to explore the Mines, and Silo Art.
To finish the day an afternoon at The Pines building stick houses, bird watching and tunnel exploring!
5km and 9000 steps later we are officially exhausted! 😂

Another great therapy session, during our visit to the library we discovered a shop set up.

This quickly lead to role playing being a customer, sales assistant and police when a customer tried to escape their enormous shopping bill.

This spontaneous play created an opportunity to practice sharing, turn taking, following a group plan, numeracy skills and communication.

Today's therapy session involved creating an adaptation for a key locker.

The dexterity skills, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills required to operate a key and lock can be tricky. Especially because every key and lock is different and requires the right combination of turns, pressure, secret taps, giggles, or wiggles to get it working.

So today, we said, who needs keys when you have the power of a fingerprint?

Working with the client's team, we set up a fingerprint padlock, and presto, it works for the client. No more losing keys, getting frustrated with locks, or feeling anxious about it not working.

What a wonderful day exploring our local parklands, complemented by a morning tea and a friendly discussion.

This was followed by illuminate augmentitive games. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed participating in each activity, which helped to enhance coordination, pattern recognition, teamwork, communication, and tracking skills.

What makes Skills Group different to other day options programs out there?
Well, our programs are created with each participant in mind and we make sure their voices are heard and represented in each program.

Today we took a step back in time when visiting the Blacksmiths in Angaston. It was a fabulous morning enjoyed by all.

Clean Up Australia.
A community service project was undertaken today, focusing on collecting rubbish from Apex Park to Dead Man's Pass, following a comprehensive risk assessment. At one juncture, participants engaged in an impromptu stick race. The reflective discussion that followed highlighted feelings of productivity, community pride, enjoyment of the cleanup process, and an appreciation for the ease of litter collection. The experience left participants with a heightened awareness of litter and the skills to efficiently collect it.
