TW: ed's, body dysmorphia, lived experience

Something I struggle with so much is body dysmorphia to the point where my sisters will shake me and be like “WTF CODY” because they literally cannot understand what I'm seeing and honestly… I cannot see what they’re seeing either.

I genuinely cannot recognise myself in photos sometimes because my body looks SO completely different in size and shape to how I perceive it. It’s such a strange experience when the body you live in and the body everyone else sees seem like two completely different things.

Something I think I'm slowly accepting is that I might never really know what my body shape looks like. My brain just isn’t a reliable narrator when it comes to that. Maybe that’s okay and maybe I actually don't need to know.

Something happened yesterday that made me realise just how much my relationship with this has changed. I sent a photo to my sisters’ group chat and one of my sisters replied saying I looked “happy and healthy”. And you know what? I didn’t take that as an insult. I said THANKS I THINK SO TOO 🥹 Because I AM happy and healthy (for me) and I am so grateful to be living a big life.

I'm better at measuring a big life too! I can do that good!!! How unclenched my jaw is hahah, how much I dance in the kitchen, how silly I am, how many people I have Big Love for, how many squeals I do when I see animals, how much I laugh, how good the food I be eating tastes, how I talk to myself, and how much joy I allow myself to have.

Maybe I'll never know what my body looks like and maybe all I need to know is it's letting me live big. And I want that!!!!!!!

Do you know what I think about a lot as someone whose whole camera roll is filled with pictures of nature?

Imagine if we spoke and thought about our bodies and lives like we think about trees and nature.

Because tell me *why* when I see the autumnal leaves on this maple don't I then start judging the rest of the leaves like "you're so stupid, you can't even keep up with the rest of the leaves." I am simply just in awe of it and where it's at.

Imagine if we could apply that more freely to ourselves. I'm trying, really. If a flower is half in bloom in my garden I'm rooting for it and I really hope one day I'm so quick to give that grace to myself in all areas. I wish that for you too. Let's all think about mushrooms and how every mushroom is entirely phenomenal (the exception being that mushroom Wellington), and so that must be true for us too ☺️

No but are you okay if you have an hour by hour itinerary you *have* to follow? That sounds like hell on this earth, not a holiday 😅

My insufferable interesting fact is forever going to be that I've met a geisha irl now. Nothing has ever taken by breathe away except seeing her walk into the tea room, especially as a former autistic kid that used to collect kimmi dolls 😅

Fun fact: you can't post photos or videos of anything identifiable about them on social media.

Ask me to see the pics and vids irl though because I'll yap about it forever!

Let me know if any of this is helpful ☺️

Anyone else go on holidays to get lost? It's always the most unexpected things that have the biggest impact and make for the most fondest memories. This is a public piano with a view of Kyoto tower. These baddies just jump on HUMBLY and play the wildest tunes ever. For free???? And then keep going on their own shopping/train journey 🤯

Look, I might just be blissed out because I'm on a holiday and the temples are so peaceful BUT, I saw this and it really resonated with me. It's some of the most beautiful work I see clients do. They can be in environments and situations and re-write a completely different narrative about themselves, others, and the big scary world 🌱

🆘 I thought I made a dinner reservation for $15 but $156 came out of my bank account 💀

ANYWAY, we embrace the chaos after thinking "holy f**k how can a ramen place cost $80 per person."

I walk in and it's this 16 person communal table, sensory deprivation vibes + art + the most wonderfully pleasant music creating a full sensory experience.

There were quite a few courses and a few Yuzu sakes before the main event of ramen and HOLY. There's this whole way to do it where you start at the front of the bowl and as you eat it, the flavours change by the moment. I was experiencing it in real time 🤯

It was a massive bowl and it tasted so good and flavourful that I never wanted it to end as I felt myself growing fuller. You're encouraged to slurp it and have a time. It got me thinking about how fun life can be. Food is life to me if you can't tell but damn that was such a playful and fun experience. I then checked back in the dining card and it said the whole experience is meant to make you think about "what it means to eat and to live, and to celebrate the delight of living."

I then got sentimental because it turns out I actually dedicate my work to that, especially when you add in the waiting disorders work I do 😭 everything is bloody connected, isn't it? Then it also talked about that on the card too 😭

Food as art experience got me good + in the feels as all good art does.

May you enjoy food as the playground of life sometimes on this floating rock we're on.

I'm officially on holidays! But firstly, how talented is the lovely human who did this in only an hour? It's so bizarre how the universe works because I was just reading about a live portrait drawer and thought HOW COOL and then this miraculously happened to me. Even includes the shirt I was wearing in session!!!!!!

Do you know what I never anticipated in any type of career I thought I'd have? Well firstly owning my own business AND being a social worker hahahah but also spending sooooo long planning to go on a holiday with clients including giving them heaps of notice, care planning for while I'm away, alleviating all their fears about me dying overseas etc (because I've learnt that apparently travelling without an e-sim is a death in and of itself).

The best way to start a holiday as a small biz owner? Getting an email an hour before leaving from my accountant saying I'm getting a tax REFUND. um........ WHAT? If you know you know. It's v meaningful because it's a culmination of allllllll the practices I've put in place for a sustainable practice + life.

I'll probably still post because I love sharing things when relevant but yeh don't text me cos I'm phone stays on airplane mode because I think a part of the journey is getting lost, lost again, and then lost again 🛸

This post isn't about the B**M and kink community. It's more "remember when the algorithm wasn't serving this stuff to kids and you actually had to ~find~ a baddie from the B**M community to learn cool stuff." 😅 It's almost like leaving expert things to the experts has a purpose.

I just really want parents, carers, educators, etc to know what young people are consuming online. And I want young people to know there's worse things to be known as than vanilla omg.
