Some things can’t wait three weeks for a GP appointment. 👩‍⚕️
A fever that appeared overnight. A baby who isn’t feeding quite normally. A child who wakes up with a rash. An earache. A cough that suddenly sounds worse. Or something you’ve been watching that just doesn’t feel right. 😫
Our GPs keep appointments available for exactly these sorts of things. 📆
Same-day GP appointments are available at Baby Steps. 🧚‍♀️
For sick babies, unwell children, worried parents — and all the other things that don’t conveniently happen three weeks in advance.
Book online or call Baby Steps. 📲

As parents, we accept that children will experience disappointment, frustration and big emotions. 😫 We know we can’t protect them from every uncomfortable feeling.
Physical symptoms can be harder to sit with. 🫎
A tummy ache, headache, constipation, poor sleep, fussy eating or a child who just seems out of sorts can quickly have us looking for an explanation. 🐎
Sometimes there is one. But healthy children also get headaches and tummy aches. They have bad nights, eat less some weeks and have days when they’re simply not themselves. Not every symptom points to a disease, allergy or deficiency. 🦦
Part of looking after children is being comfortable with some uncertainty. Sometimes the safest and most sensible approach is to watch. Patterns emerge. Symptoms settle. Or something changes that tells us it’s time to investigate further.
🩺 This is where having a GP you trust matters — someone who knows when to reassure, when to watch and when to investigate. 🔬
Childhood isn’t symptom-free. Knowing what needs attention, and what can simply be given a little time, can save families a lot of unnecessary worry. 😮‍💨

But just to be clear - Watching and waiting is one thing. Worrying and waiting is another. If you’re concerned, see your doctor. 👩‍⚕️

When should you worry about a crying baby? 🤔
Crying doesn’t necessarily mean a baby is unwell.
A baby who is crying strongly, feeding and responding to you is showing important signs that they’re alert and responsive. 😳
What can be more concerning is a baby who becomes unusually quiet, floppy, less responsive or stops feeding. 😱
So when your baby is crying, don’t just ask “Why are they crying?”
Ask “Is this a healthy baby or a sick baby?”
Understanding the difference can help put crying into perspective — and help you recognise when your baby does need medical attention. 🏥

Crying is part of being a baby. 😭 It can mean hunger, tiredness, discomfort, overstimulation, wanting to be held — or sometimes there’s no obvious reason at all. 🤷‍♀️
For new parents, that can be hard to get used to. We naturally want to find the problem and fix it. 🔧
But a healthy baby who is feeding, growing and responsive will still cry. Sometimes, quite a lot. 🙉
Learning what’s normal — and what actually warrants medical attention — can take some of the stress out of those early months. 🪿

“No risk of bleeding.” That’s how laser gets positioned. Because no parent wants to see their baby bleed.
But a simple scissors frenotomy remains a well-established technique and, when performed by an experienced clinician, carries a negligible risk of significant bleeding.
You will be sold medical procedures on social media. Before you click, just ask yourself, are they feeling my anxieties, or trying to ease them? And if you’re not sure, ask your GP.

Does anyone else have a child who, one minute is trying to kill you 👊, and the next minute is dancing in circles like they’ve never had a problem in their life? 🍃
One of the stranger parts of parenting is how quickly kids move on. Full catastrophe. Tears. Outrage. Deep injustice. 😡
Then out of nowhere all is forgiven. They’re dancing, they love you again, and they’d like a snack. 🫐
There’s something quite enviable about the ability of children to move on so completely. 🐸

Meanwhile, you’re still recovering from being emotionally beaten around for twenty minutes, while apparently normal family life has resumed. 🥊

Oh, the joys of parenting. 🤷‍♀️
