On this sunny autumn Sunday, I pruned the climbing plant in my garden. 🌿
For a plant that’s been there for a while it’s very healthy if, every now and then, someone decides to cut away the dead branches, the crooked ones and those that have grown too close together. That way, light and air can reach the heart of the plant again. A rejuvenating treatment.
It’s the same with your relationship. Arguments that were never properly resolved, jokes that were taken as hurtful criticism, promises that weren’t kept. This will build up and, at a certain point, get in the way of your relationship’s healthy growth.
That’s when you need to start pruning. Take hold of the branches, examine them, see where they’ve become entangled, and decide not to hold on to them any longer. It’s no easy task, because you don’t want to damage the heart of the plant.
That’s a good time to call in a professional. Someone who can create a safe space for you and your partner to look at what’s been burdening your relationship for a while. Someone with a clear eye who can help you uncover damaging patterns. So that light and air can flow to the heart of your relationship once more. Just like after a thorough pruning. ☀️
