🎶 Friday sing-a-longs!🎵

Nursery rhymes are a simple but powerful way to support early communication and language. They give children opportunities to practice sounds, words, gestures, imitation, turn-taking, memory, and so much more.

But every child will join in differently. One might sing along to every word, another might fill in the last word, while another might clap, move, make a sound, or simply listen and enjoy. Some may even add their own remixed version 😂

We love seeing all the different ways our little ones participate, connect, and communicate. There’s no one “right” way to sing a song, just lots of little ways to learn and grow 🌱

Some children jump right into conversations, while others may need more time, support, or a different way to get their message across.

This school year, let’s make space for all communication - so every child has a way to connect, participate, and be understood. 🫶

Supporting your child’s communication doesn’t have to feel like “therapy” at home 💙✨

Some of the best language-building moments happen during the everyday things you’re already doing together 🏡🧸💬

🗣️ Talk through what you’re doing
Describe what you and your child are doing during routines, playtime, mealtimes and more.

👀 Get down to their level
Sit or kneel nearby so your child can easily see your face, gestures and what you’re talking about.

🙋🏽‍♀️ Create reasons to communicate
Give your child little opportunities to ask, point, gesture, comment or get your attention.

➕💬 Add a little more to what they say
If your child says “car” 🚗, you might model “big car” or “car is driving!”

⏳ Pause and give them time
After you say something or ask a question, wait a few seconds. Give your child time to process and respond without rushing in.

You don’t need special toys or activities to support communication 💛 Everyday moments are full of opportunities to connect, interact and build language.
