Have you ever thought, “I just don’t feel like myself anymore”?

For many women, the emotional and mental health changes of perimenopause can show up before they ever connect what they’re experiencing to hormonal changes.

Anxiety may feel different. Your mood may change. You may feel overwhelmed more easily, have trouble concentrating, or simply wonder why you don’t feel quite like yourself.

Alison knows this experience personally, and it’s one of the reasons she is so passionate about supporting women through perimenopause and menopause.

Read Alison’s story and learn more about the connection between perimenopause and mental health in our latest blog.

We usually mean well. ❤️

When someone we care about is anxious, our first instinct is often to make them feel better as quickly as possible.

But sometimes the phrases we use, even with the best intentions, can leave someone feeling misunderstood or dismissed.

Instead of saying:
• "Just relax."
• "You're overthinking it."
• "There's nothing to worry about."

Try saying:
✨ "I'm here with you."
✨ "That sounds really difficult."
✨ "Would it help to talk about what's on your mind?"
✨ "How can I support you right now?"

You don't need to have the perfect words. Often, simply listening without trying to fix the problem is one of the most supportive things you can do.

If you or someone you care about is struggling with anxiety, remember that you don't have to navigate it alone. Support is available, and reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

We often put pressure on ourselves to "get over it" as quickly as possible.

To stop feeling anxious.
To stop feeling sad.
To stop feeling frustrated.

But emotions aren't problems to solve. They're signals worth paying attention to.

Instead of asking, "How do I make this feeling go away?"

Try asking:

💙 "What is this feeling trying to tell me?"

Giving yourself permission to experience your emotions with curiosity, rather than judgment, can be an important step toward better mental wellbeing.

You don't have to have everything figured out today.

Sometimes the first step is simply allowing yourself to feel what you're feeling.

When we think about personal growth, we often imagine big, life changing moments.

But growth is usually much quieter than that.

Sometimes it's choosing to rest without guilt.

Sometimes it's speaking up when you would have stayed silent.

Sometimes it's setting a healthy boundary.

Sometimes it's simply getting through a difficult day with a little more self compassion than yesterday.

Growth doesn't have to be dramatic to be meaningful.

Every small step you take toward caring for your mental and emotional wellbeing matters.

⏩ What's one small way you've grown recently? We'd love to hear in the comments.

One of the questions we hear most often is, "What if I don't know what to say?"

If you've ever considered therapy but felt unsure about where to begin, you're not alone.

The truth is, you don't need to have everything figured out before you walk through the door.

You don't need the perfect words.
You don't need a plan.
You don't need to know exactly why you're feeling the way you do.

Therapy isn't about saying the "right" thing. It's about having a safe, supportive space where you can show up exactly as you are.

Sometimes, the hardest part is simply taking that first step.

At Maratos Counselling & Consulting, we want you to know this:

✨ You don't have to know where to start.
✨ It's okay if you cry. It's also okay if you don't.
✨ Progress isn't always obvious. Sometimes healing happens in quiet, meaningful ways.
✨ You don't have to carry everything alone.

If you've been thinking about reaching out, let this be your reminder that you don't have to have all the answers before taking the first step.

💙 We're here when you're ready.

Many of us have been taught to avoid uncomfortable conversations.

We worry about saying the wrong thing, hurting someone's feelings, or creating conflict.

But healthy relationships aren't built by avoiding difficult conversations. They're built by learning how to communicate openly, respectfully, and with compassion.

Whether it's with a partner, family member, friend, or colleague, honest communication can strengthen trust, improve understanding, and create healthier relationships over time.

If you find yourself avoiding conversations because they feel overwhelming or uncomfortable, therapy can provide a supportive space to build confidence, develop communication skills, and navigate those moments more effectively.

Every meaningful conversation begins with the willingness to start.

Ever notice how making simple decisions feels harder by the end of the day?

"What should we have for dinner?"

"Should I answer that email now or tomorrow?"

"Do I have the energy to go out tonight?"

"What should i make for the office pot luck?"

It's not that you've suddenly become indecisive.

Your brain may simply be tired.

Throughout the day, your mind is constantly making decisions, solving problems, switching between tasks, caring for others, and processing information. By evening, your mental energy can become depleted, making even small choices feel overwhelming.

A few ways to reduce decision fatigue:

✔ Plan tomorrow's priorities before you end your day.
✔ Limit unnecessary choices where you can.
✔ Give yourself permission to postpone non urgent decisions.
✔ Recognize that mental exhaustion is real, not laziness.

Sometimes the healthiest decision you can make is deciding that not everything needs to be decided today.

Why does rest sometimes feel so difficult?

You finally have a quiet moment. Your to do list can wait. Yet instead of feeling relaxed, you feel restless, guilty, or anxious.

If that sounds familiar, you're not alone.

Many of us become so accustomed to constantly caring for others, solving problems, and staying productive that slowing down doesn't come naturally. Rest isn't just about having free time. Sometimes, it's about giving ourselves permission to pause.

In this month's BScene Magazine, Alison explores why rest can feel uncomfortable, what happens when we stay in "go mode" for too long, and simple ways to reconnect with true rest without guilt.

If you've ever struggled to switch off, this article is for you.

Many people continue showing up for work, family, relationships, and responsibilities while quietly managing stress, worry, or emotional challenges.

Therapy offers a supportive space to slow down, explore what you’re experiencing, and develop tools that support your well being.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
