International Clown Week

Is celebrated annually from August 1 to 7 to recognize the artistry, humor, and dedication of clowns who bring joy and laughter to communities worldwide.

History and BackgroundOrigin: Started on a limited scale in the 1950s, pushed into organization in the 1960s by the Clown Club of America.Official Recognition: President Richard Nixon signed a presidential proclamation officially establishing National Clown Week in 1970 (prooclaimed in 1971).

Global Reach: Renamed to International Clown Week in 1991 to embrace worldwide participation.How People CelebrateVolunteer Shows: Performing in hospitals, nursing homes, and charity events.
