Opened on February 1,1961, Joseph Brant Hospital was erected on land owned by its namesake, Thyandenegea (Joseph Brant). Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) is a full-service community teaching hospital located in the growing and thriving community of Burlington, Ontario. The hospital serves residents from Burlington and surrounding cities of Hamilton, Waterdown, Flamborough, Milton and Stoney Creek. JBH is one of Hamilton Niagara’s Top Employers for six consecutive years, with a skilled staff of 194 physicians, 852 nurses, 2,062 full- and part-time staff and more than 700 volunteers. JBH is a Clinical Education site in conjunction with McMaster University, and designated as an Academic Community Teaching Hospital. Its expanded campus, including the state-of-art Michael Lee-Chin & Family Patient Tower, features an Emergency Department, 293 funded inpatient beds, and 9 Operating Rooms. JBH inspires and empowers a culture of caring and this is demonstrated in many ways including our commitment to the health, safety and well-being of our people. The Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation is a charitable organization founded in 1976. With the help of the community and corporate sponsors, it has raised over $40 million for the improvement of the hospital. Through fundraising initiatives, the Foundation works to assist JBH in its mission to provide compassionate quality health care. Through our events and fundraising initiatives, we strive to build and strengthen community relationships, rally support for our cause, and ultimately benefit the community at large by helping to improve the quality health care provided by Joseph Brant Hospital. This Canadian Intensive Care Week, we want to celebrate the exceptional dedication, expertise, compassion and commitment of our Intensive Care interdisciplinary team.

Every day, these highly specialized professionals come together to care for some of the sickest and most critically ill patients, while supporting their families through some of the most difficult and uncertain moments of their lives.

On top of clinical expertise, caring for critically ill patients calls for compassion, empathy, courage and a deep understanding of the human experience. Our ICU team brings these qualities to the bedside — listening to patients and families, providing reassurance during moments of uncertainty, advocating for those in their care and supporting one another through challenging situations.

On October 18, 1976, the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation was officially incorporated. This year, we’re proud to celebrate an incredible milestone: 50 years of connecting the generosity of our community with the needs of Joseph Brant Hospital to help ensure the best care is always close to home. 🧡

This milestone belongs to all of us: our generous donors, dedicated volunteers, hospital and Foundation staff, physicians, partners, patients, and supporters. Every gift, large or small, has helped shape the hospital our community relies on today.

From all of us at the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation, thank you for being part of our journey and helping us make a lasting difference in the health and well-being of our community.

The 4th Annual Mark Brierley Memorial Golf Day once again brought its "A Game" for the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation! ⛳ This year's event raised an incredible $15, 842.07 in support of urgent priorities at JBH. That brings the tournament's total to $78,800 raised since it began in 2023.

We are so grateful to the Brierley family and everyone who sponsored, supported, and participated in the tournament. We can't wait to see what you tee up for 2027!

This Healthy Workplace Month, we want to highlight our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Advisory Committee (DEIBAC). The committee helps guide our efforts to improve accessibility, address barriers to care and strengthen a culture where everyone is treated with dignity, compassion and respect.

“I chose to join because I want patients and their loved ones to be comfortable accessing hospital services when facing what are likely some of the most challenging times in their lives,” says Jen Michetti, Professional Practice Educator. “Being part of DEIBAC is a commitment to being part of ongoing growth and change to make coming to JBH a positive experience for everyone.”

Today is World Mental Health Day, and we’re celebrating what’s possible when a community comes together. 🧡🧠

Thanks to the incredible commitment of so many, including the generosity of our amazing donors, our For All Minds Campaign has raised $18.1 million toward our $20 million goal to help transform mental health and addictions care at Joseph Brant Hospital.

Our new Michael and Laura Paletta Mental Health and Additions Unit will include a modern, expanded Inpatient Unit, designed for care that is dignified, respectful and person-centred, along with an enhanced Outpatient Clinic and a brand new Child & Youth Mental Health Day Hospital.

Mental health touches all of us, and today, especially, let’s come together and invest in care and compassion for everyone in our community.
