Every moment of a person’s introduction to The Alex matters, inside and out.

A sense of welcome begins before entering our Community Health Centre or Community Food Centre. The maintenance of our outdoor spaces helps create that first impression.

It’s landscaping with purpose. Well-tended trees, shrubs, and flowers reflect growth, renewal and care. These values are also rooted in the safe, welcoming environment we nurture for people seeking barrier-free health, housing and social supports.

Thank you to our partners at Bartlett Tree Experts for their team’s gift of pruning shrubs and tree work on our properties.

Words We Live By: Meeting People Where They’re At

At The Alex, ā€œmeeting people where they’re atā€ is more than something we say. It’s a philosophy that shapes how we provide care.

It means understanding each person’s unique circumstances, respecting their choices, and providing support that is flexible, compassionate, and non-judgmental.

ā€œMeeting people where they’re at means honouring their story and meeting them without judgment. It’s about walking alongside, not pushing ahead.ā€

These words guide how we build trust, create connection, and support meaningful change.

Because care isn’t one-size-fits-all. It starts with listening, understanding, and seeing the whole person.

šŸ’™ ā€œI’m fineā€ isn’t always the full story.

This Men’s Mental Health Week, we’re reminding men, boys, and the people who care about them that they don’t have to navigate challenges alone.

Mental health can look different for everyone. Sometimes support starts with a conversation, a check-in, or simply knowing someone is there to listen.

Here are a few ways to support the men in your life:

šŸ’¬ Ask how they’re really doing
šŸ‘‚ Listen without rushing to fix
šŸ¤ Encourage connection and support
šŸ’™ Remind them that reaching out is a sign of strength

At The Alex, we believe care starts with meeting people where they are — with compassion, dignity, and community.

You matter. Support is available.

Thank you to everyone who laced up and participated in the 2026 Servus Calgary Marathon on behalf of The Alex. Together, we all run for health, home and humanity.

Through your support, our team can continue to serve medical care, housing, food security, mental wellness, social supports and more to people in need.

We couldn’t have done it without you and we can’t wait to see you next year!

🌈 Communities are strongest when people can show up as their authentic selves—not just in celebration, but in everyday life.

Pride Month is a time to celebrate the diversity, resilience, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. It's also an opportunity to recognize something fundamental: people thrive when they feel seen, respected, and connected to the communities around them.

This June, we're celebrating the individuals, families, advocates, staff, volunteers, and community members who help make Calgary a more welcoming and vibrant place for everyone.

Because when people belong, communities thrive. šŸŒˆšŸ’›

Happy Pride Month from all of us at The Alex.

Building a community where everyone belongs starts with removing barriers before they become obstacles.

Accessibility is about more than physical spaces. It's about ensuring people can access care, services, resources, and opportunities in ways that work for them.

At The Alex, that means meeting people where they are. Through our Mobile Health Clinics and community-based services, we work to bring care closer to the people who need it—helping reduce barriers and improve access to support.

This National AccessAbility Week, we're reflecting on the small and meaningful ways we can create more inclusive communities where everyone feels welcomed, supported, and able to participate fully.

Because when we design for inclusion, everyone benefits.

At The Alex, we envision a Canada where everyone has the means and knowledge to access good, healthy food in a dignified way—an effort that requires an entire community. A leader in meeting our shared goals are our longtime partners at the RBC Foundation.

Thank you for supporting our Local Food Security Solutions project at our Community Food Centre. We’re aligned with goals to improve people’s access to affordable food and enhance their financial literacy through innovative food skills programming.

When we unite through our Fresh and Fare Community Market, and food skills programs, we’re able to help address issues associated with poverty and food insecurity in Calgary.
