Located in Calgary and Lethbridge Fresh Start Recovery Centre’s (FSRC) treatment program follows the disease concept: We see addiction as an illness that is progressive and often fatal if left untreated. The good news is that with treatment and a program of recovery, people can and DO live healthy, happy and productive lives. That has been our focus for the last 29 years as we provide solutions which support people moving forward in long-term recovery. With our treatment locations in both Calgary (men only) and Lethbridge (men and women) we are seen as a treatment leader not only in Calgary and area, but are recognized across Canada for the interdisciplinary approach we take to treating addiction. Our entire focus is on a recovery solution that is real, attainable and sustainable. Along with the two treatment centers, we currently have 46 post-treatment housing beds in two apartments in Calgary. Post-treatment housing clients are provided weekly check-ins with an outreach counsellor, peer support and are part of a strong alumni network. In all of our work, we remain constant to our core values: equality, empathy, trust, accountability, support, change, respect and individuality.

At Fresh Start Recovery, moments like these remind us why the work we do matters.

Congratulations to our newest Fresh Start Alumni. Your hard work, honesty, and commitment to recovery deserve to be celebrated. Reaching this milestone takes courage, and we’re proud to see you take this next step toward a healthier, brighter future.

We also want to recognize the families and friends who continue to show up and support their loved ones throughout this journey. Recovery doesn't happen in isolation. It takes commitment, support, and a community willing to stand beside people as they work toward change.

To our staff, Alumni, and everyone who continues to support Fresh Start, thank you for being part of this work. Every milestone, every relationship rebuilt, and every person who finds hope again is a reminder of the difference we can make together.

💙 When someone you care about is struggling with addiction, it affects you too. Your well-being matters, and you don’t have to do this alone.

Fresh Start Recovery’s next Friends and Family Healing Initiative begins Thursday, October 29, 2026.

This four-week programme offers a supportive space to better understand addiction, share experiences and begin focusing on your own healing.

Led by Nicole, our Family Systems Healing Counsellor, the group provides education, practical tools and connection to help you understand how addiction affects relationships, build healthier ways of communicating and care for yourself.

Whether your loved one is in treatment, in recovery or still struggling, we welcome you to reach out. You don’t need to have every answer before taking that first step.

We don’t do this work alone. We never have. Fresh Start has always been built on people coming together, caring for one another and giving what they can to help someone else.

Today, we had the pleasure of meeting J.R. Beauregard, treasurer of the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation Learning Centre for Calgary, who delivered a $3,286 donation from last year’s meat raffle. It was wonderful to welcome J.R. and thank him in person.

To everyone who organized the raffle, bought a ticket and helped make this gift possible, thank you. You gave your time, your effort and your generosity to support people in recovery. We see that, and we don’t take it lightly.

Together, we are Providing Solutions To Save Lives, Rebuild Families, and Strengthen Communities. Behind those words are real people. Someone asking for help. A family finding its way back together. Someone learning that they have a community beside them.

People deserve the best we can give them. A welcoming place. Good food. A fresh toothbrush. The opportunity to feel seen, heard and cared for.

That was at the heart of our visit to Bow Valley Food Bank in Canmore.

Through our 12 Stop Charity Ride for Recovery, our riders contributed $1,500 to give back. Cedarbrae Pharmacy stepped up and matched every dollar, bringing that support to $3,000. A few of our dentist friends contributed dental care necessities as well. Together, we delivered over 600 lbs. of food and essential items.

Thank you to Cedarbrae Pharmacy & Walk-In Medical Clinic, our riders and our dental community for making this possible. You saw a need and helped us do something about it.

Sitting down with the team at Bow Valley Food Bank, we heard about the growing need and the care they put into supporting their neighbours. Their approach is something we share at Fresh Start: if this was for your family, what would you want? That should guide the care we give.

We also talked about the gifts each of us has to offer. Sometimes we don’t realize how much our time or talents could mean to someone else.

Bow Valley Food Bank could use someone with social media and website skills to volunteer their time. There are stories worth sharing and needs people should know about. If you can help them get that message out, please reach out to their team.

A little spooky. A lot of fun. A community celebrating recovery together.

Aventa and Fresh Start Recovery invite you, your family and your friends to join us on Saturday, October 31, 2026, for our Clean and Sober Halloween Dance!

Pull out your favourite costume and come spend Halloween with our recovery community. We have something for the little monsters, the dance-floor regulars and everyone in between.

Here’s what we have in store:

🎃 6:30 p.m. | Spooky Booths and Family Activities
Bring the kids for spooky booths, Halloween activities and plenty of treats. At 7:00 p.m., we’ll get the dance floor started for the little ghouls and goblins!

💃 8:00 p.m. | Let’s Dance
Gather your crew and join everyone on the dance floor with DJ Marvin Culture! We’ll keep the celebration going until late.

Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do for our recovery is show up and spend time with people who understand.

Join us tonight, Wednesday, October 7, at 6:30 p.m. for our Alumni Step and Topic Meeting. Across Calgary, Lethbridge and online, we come together to share honestly, listen and support one another.

Our Alumni believe that every voice matters, every person’s recovery deserves respect, and no member should face difficulties alone. These meetings help us put those beliefs into practice.

Thanksgiving gives us a chance to slow down, share a meal and appreciate the people who walk beside us.

This Sunday, we’re setting the table at all three Fresh Start facilities across Calgary and Lethbridge. We invite our Alumni, families, friends and children to join us for Thanksgiving Dinner and an evening of connection, gratitude and community.

Integrity grows when we become willing to speak honestly and take responsibility for our actions. Having people beside us who understand can make those conversations a little easier.

Join us this Wednesday, October 7, at 6:30 p.m. for our Alumni Step and Topic meeting, focusing on Step 5, Belief 5 and Integrity.

Belief 5 reminds us that each person’s program of recovery is worthy of respect. Our experiences may differ, but we can listen, learn from one another and support each other as we put recovery into practice.

Fresh Start Alumni are invited to join us in Calgary, Lethbridge or online. Whether you have been attending regularly or it has been a while, you are welcome.
