Located in Calgary and Lethbridge Fresh Start Recovery Centre’s (FSRC) treatment program follows the disease concept: We see addiction as an illness that is progressive and often fatal if left untreated. The good news is that with treatment and a program of recovery, people can and DO live healthy, happy and productive lives. That has been our focus for the last 29 years as we provide solutions wh

ich support people moving forward in long-term recovery. With our treatment locations in both Calgary (men only) and Lethbridge (men and women) we are seen as a treatment leader not only in Calgary and area, but are recognized across Canada for the interdisciplinary approach we take to treating addiction. Our entire focus is on a recovery solution that is real, attainable and sustainable. Along with the two treatment centers, we currently have 46 post-treatment housing beds in two apartments in Calgary. Post-treatment housing clients are provided weekly check-ins with an outreach counsellor, peer support and are part of a strong alumni network. In all of our work, we remain constant to our core values: equality, empathy, trust, accountability, support, change, respect and individuality.

There is more than one kind of strength. For our newest Gratitude group, strength has meant showing up, being honest, accepting support and continuing to do the work.

This Friday at 1:15 p.m., we will gather at the Calgary Facility for their Gratitude Ceremony as they complete the first phase of treatment and are welcomed into the Fresh Start Alumni community.

Friends, family and community are invited to join us in person or online. To attend, join the livestream or be included for lunch, please contact [email protected].

We hope you will help us recognize the work behind this moment and remind this group that Fresh Start and our community will continue to support them long after Friday.

Recovery was never meant to be kept to ourselves. It grows when it is shared.

Belief 2:

“We believe that our recovery will be shared freely and willingly by our members – new and old.”

Sometimes someone with years of recovery offers the hope a newcomer needs. Sometimes a newcomer reminds the rest of us why we continue showing up. Every person and every experience has something to give.

Join us Wednesday for our Alumni Step & Topic Meeting:

Step 2: Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Belief 2: We believe that our recovery will be shared freely and willingly by our members – new and old.

Topic: Hope

There are a lot of ways to measure what happened at Henderson Lake this morning. Our fastest runner finished the 5K in about 17 minutes. The top three reached the finish line within 25. About 100 people made their way around the lake. But for us, what matters most is how many people chose to show up for recovery.

Some came to compete, some simply to finish, and others volunteered, cheered, brought their families or stood along the path encouraging people forward. Every person who participated contributed something to the day.

Our inaugural Lethbridge Recovery Community 5K Run for Recovery showed us again that recovery is people helping people. It is not only about what a person stops doing. It is about participating in life again, taking responsibility, contributing to community and finding a place to belong. With beautiful weather and people encouraging one another around the lake, that is exactly what we saw.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who helped make this day possible. Your help and participation mean more than you know.

We were grateful to have Southern Alcare Manor alongside us for this first event. Our thanks also go to Crosshair Cutting, Coring and Demolition, Lethbridge County, Public Image Co. for their printing support, File Solutions Limited and Tim Hortons. Most of all, thank you to every volunteer, family member, community supporter and member of the Lethbridge Recovery Community who gave their time and energy.

This was our first year, but it will not be our last. We look forward to seeing even more people find their place at the start line next year.

Moving Together. Healing Together.

What a great day hanging out at GW Cycle with some pretty good people.

Fresh Start Recovery was glad to be part of the fun as our friends at Grover Law gave away a $5,000 GW Cycle shopping spree to one lucky winner. Add in ice cream trucks, food trucks, a whole lot of people being fed, and plenty of laughs, and it made for a pretty solid Saturday.

Always good spending time with our friends from Motorcycle Ride for Dad, the Harley Owners Group, Steve and the crew, and everyone who stopped by to say hello.

Days like this are a good reminder that community is built by people showing up, spending time together, and supporting one another.

Thanks to Grover Law and GW Cycle for having us along for the ride.

There is something different about a Gratitude Ceremony.

Today, another group reached an important point in their recovery and had the opportunity to look back at where they started, recognize the work they have done, and acknowledge the people who have walked beside them.

There is a lot packed into that moment.

The difficult days. The relationships being rebuilt. The trust coming back. The willingness to keep showing up when it would have been easier not to.

And then there is gratitude.

Not because everything is suddenly perfect, but because life is starting to look different.

Congratulations to this group on the work you have done and the work still ahead of you.

And welcome to the Fresh Start alumni community.

Keep showing up. Stay connected. Keep giving back. You are part of something bigger now, and you do not have to do any of it alone.

This is what recovery looks like in real life.

The people have always been the point.

That was easy to see at Whoop-Up Days.

Families, clients, alumni, staff, friends and community all sharing the same space. Kids running around. Music. Food. A tipi being raised. A Harley-Davidson finding its new home. People laughing, visiting and simply being part of what was happening around them.

That is what matters.

Recovery is about more than stepping away from addiction. It is about finding a way back into life. Back to family. Back to responsibility. Back to laughter. Back to community.

This summer gave us a lot of opportunities to bring people together, build relationships and create shared experiences. Whoop-Up Days carried that forward in a pretty special way.

From where we stood, nobody was on the outside looking in.

The people we serve were right there in the middle of it.

Exactly where they belong.

Recovery is not separate from community. It thrives in it.

A few days ago, we talked about what Milestones really represent. Not just the time counted, but the daily choices, the effort, and the willingness to keep going.

Today, we got to see that in the room.

People celebrating years. People celebrating months. Current clients seeing what is possible. Families, friends, staff, and alumni showing up beside them.

That is why these meetings matter. Recovery is built one day at a time, but nobody has to do it alone.

Congratulations to everyone who celebrated today, and thank you to everyone who came to be part of it.
