Five of us from the Home Healthcare Network joined in the Sunshine Coast Hospice walk on Sunday for a wonderful time of sharing and companionship. Two members of the shíshálh Nation sang a welcoming song to open the event on a bright sunny day at Seaside Centre in Sechelt.

May is a time to recognize and celebrate the 8+ million caregivers across Canada who provide care to a family member, friend, or loved one. Caregiving plays a vital role in our communities, offering meaningful support while also coming with challenges.

This year’s theme, “Together in Caregiving,” highlights the importance of connection, shared support, and community. We’re excited to bring to life through events happening across BC and Canada. We’re thrilled to share a range of events and gatherings where caregivers can connect, share experiences, and access resources.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲.

Our participation helps secure the funding needed for the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society to provide compassionate support to people in our community affected by a life-limiting illness, death, and all types of grief.

The Hospice Society has arranged for BBQ burgers from the Lions Club, baked goods, raffle tickets, door prizes and great conversations. They will also have a space dedicated to viewing and discussing their "Living With Dying" documentary. Come and see how they use funds from our community, including those raised during Hike/Walk for Hospice.

We invite you to bring friends and family to join our team at 10 am on May 31st at the Sechelt Centre in Sechelt. Please let me know if you can volunteer for the 'Hike', as we need to arrange for Home Healthcare Network participants to have t-shirts for the morning so we can show our team support.

Also, please note that the event has moved from Mission Point Park to the Seaside Centre in Sechelt. The short "Walk for Hospice" will start at the Centre before the celebration.

This episode would never have happened had a one-time street performer/goofy clown turned dedicated caregiver for his terminally ill spouse not scribbled his phone number onto a piece of scrap paper and put it into the palm of host BJ Doyle’s hand. It's a story that’s still being written and part of the latest episode of “Caring For Changes”.

For Chris Rosati, being thrust into the role of caregiver to his wife Jane ended up being the most profound experience of his life. It also meant a crash course in reinventing himself through his and Jane’s shared experience of drawing on humour to eventually emerge as both a storyteller and caregiver advocate.
