When children engage in slow, controlled exhalation:
✨ the body shifts toward a calmer state
✨ breathing and heart rate can slow
✨ the brain receives signals of safety
✨ regulation and focus can improve

Plus, blow pen art also supports:
🖐️ oral motor skills
👀 visual motor integration
🧠 motor planning
🎯 sustained attention
✍️ hand strength and coordination

Sometimes the best regulation strategies feel like play. 💛

Reflex integration doesn't have to happen indoors! Many activities that support reflex integration can be incorporated naturally into outdoor play and summer adventures.

Try activities such as:
🏊 Swimming
🐻 Animal walks through the yard
🛝 Creating an outdoor obstacle course
⭕ Hopscotch
🌳 Balancing on tree stumps or logs
🥾 Hiking on uneven terrain
⛰️ Rolling down grassy hills
🤸 Jumping on a trampoline
⚽ Playing catch or kicking a ball
🚴‍♂️Riding a bike
🌼 Crawling through grass, sand, or playground equipment

These movement-based activities can help support balance, coordination, bilateral integration, postural strength, motor planning, body awareness, and the integration of retained primitive reflexes, all while children are having fun and enjoying the outdoors. The best part? When therapeutic movement is incorporated into play, children are often more engaged, motivated, and eager to participate.

🌞 Get outside, get moving, and let play do the work!

Before we expect focus, listening, or seated work, the body may need movement and sensory input to feel regulated.

Try these strategies before table-top tasks:
🤸 Heavy work (pushing, pulling, carrying)
🌀 Vestibular input like swinging or spinning
🐻 Animal walks
💥 Crash pad or pillow jumps
🛴 Scooter board activities
🫧 Movement breaks every 10–15 minutes
🧠 Deep pressure hugs or squeezes

When a child’s nervous system feels organized, attention and participation often improve naturally 💛

Regulation before expectation.

Save this for later & share with a parent or teacher who needs this reminder ✨

The Moro reflex, also known as the “startle reflex,” is a natural infant reflex that helps babies respond to sudden movement, sounds, or changes in position. When retained beyond infancy, it can impact regulation, attention, balance, and coordination.

The Moro reflex is the primitive “fight-or-flight” response to sudden changes in sensory input.
If you see your kid is struggling with sensitivities to light, noise, clothing tags, etc. The Moro reflex might not be integrated.
