A calming room isn’t just a quiet space. It’s a place where children can learn and practice self-regulation skills.

Try including:

🌬️ Breathing visuals and coping strategy cards
🎧 Noise-cancelling headphones to reduce auditory input
🪑 Bean bags, crash pads, or cozy seating for comfort
🤲 Fidgets and sensory tools for self-regulation
📚 Emotion charts and Zones of Regulation visuals
💡 Soft lighting or calming sensory lamps
🎵 Calming music or nature sounds
🧘 Movement options such as yoga cards, stretches, or animal walks
🧸 Weighted items (when appropriate and supervised)
⏳ Visual timers to support transitions

Most importantly, teach children how and when to use the space before they are upset. A calming room is most effective when it is a proactive tool for regulation, not a reactive consequence.

When children have access to the right supports, they build the skills needed to recognize their emotions, regulate their bodies, and return to learning and play with confidence. 💙

🌟 Little Steps OT Solutions Scholarship Program is Back! 🌟

We are excited to announce that applications are now open for the next round of our FREE Occupational Therapy Scholarship Program!

The scholarship includes:
✅ An Occupational Therapy Assessment
✅ Six weeks of Occupational Therapy services
✅ Sessions provided by an Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant

Please note that available spots are very limited, and applicants must have a flexible schedule to accommodate the available treatment days and times.

If you feel your child could benefit from occupational therapy services and would like to be considered for this opportunity, comment DM me and we will provide you with the Google Form application. Application deadline is July 3, 2026

Applications will be reviewed upon submission, and selected families will be contacted directly.
