Today is Menstrual Health Day (also known as Menstrual Hygiene Day). It is observed globally on May 28 every year to raise awareness about the importance of menstrual hygiene, destigmatize periods, and advocate for menstrual equity.

The 2026 campaign is a ", the movement focuses on building a world by 2030 where no one is held back because they menstruate.

This Sunday we will be building Dignity bags to send to folx who need support without stigma.

Girls as young as 7 years old are being arrested for shoplifting period products. They're in the juvenile system simply because they do not have the financial means to meet their basic needs.

Another awesome Uncover Your Essence Youth Conference.

Tons of youth stopped by and chatted and picked up free products for themselves or a friend.

We received an anonymous donation for this event and happy to report that we were able to provide the youth with ample products as well as a donation to Fairview Junior High and products to Coverdale Society (at the end of the day).

A glorious day indeed.

The Nova Scotia Sisterhood, in partnership with the Nova Scotia Breast Screening Program, offers mammogram (breast cancer screening) appointments for Sisterhood patients, aged 40 and older.

Monthly appointments available at the Halifax Shopping Centre and Dartmouth General Hospital, and *NEW* Mobile Unit appointments will take place at the North Preston Community Centre, September 24 and 25, 2026.

If you meet the eligibility requirements below, please call 902-421-7270 to schedule an appointment with the Sisterhood’s Family Practice Nurse who will confirm your eligibility before booking your mammogram spot. New patients welcome.

Nova Scotia Sisterhood screening mammogram eligibility requirements:

- African Nova Scotian/Black woman or gender-diverse individual
- Aged 40-49: First mammogram or at least 1 year since last mammogram
- Aged 50+: First mammogram or at least 2 years since last mammogram*
- No new breast symptoms
- No breast implants
- No personal history of breast cancer
- Resident of Canada with valid provincial health card

*Individuals aged 50 or older are eligible for yearly mammograms if they have increased risk factors (e.g., close family history of breast cancer). Please speak to our nurse to see if you qualify for yearly mammograms.

The Nova Scotia Sisterhood is hosting a Pap & STBBI Party for African Nova Scotian/Black women and gender-diverse individuals — offering cervical cancer screening and STBBI (sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections) testing in a supportive space.
