Aloha m’buddies!
Lots of folks (read: at least a person a day) have been asking how construction has been since our last post in June and if there have been any resolutions. We haven’t been able to provide much of an update as not much had changed. We had two false starts in July where we were told that the noisy activities were done, only to have it start up again after the construction team realized they had forgotten an area. This pattern has continued for the past 2.5 months into last week.
It’s been crickets from the city and the contractor’s insurance company. I don’t expect that there will be any conversation, let alone compensation. We have had a positive relationship with the construction team down the street who have been able to provide us with updates of their activities as well. Fortunately, we have not been nearly as impacted by their activities and they hope to be completed by the end of September.
I do want to share what we have done from our end to weather the storm. I want you to know that we want TFC to be here forever and will do what we can to be here for YOU. I share these things because there’s always a lot of behind the scenes sacrifices that happen:
🔨 A teammate was laid off; another one needed to leave and we chose not to re-hire anyone to keep overhead down. Jenelle and myself sailed the high seas of floating by ourselves this summer!
🔨 We shortened our operating hours.
🔨 I reduced my pay and even skipped a pay while increasing the number of working hours.
🔨 Kept operating costs down by making no unnecessary purchases, fixing what we can with what we have on hand. I’m basically a plumber now :)
We thank everyone who has checked in to see how they can help. We’ve been shown A LOT of love these last few months and believe in the goodness of community.
XOXO
Lindsay
TL;DR: The best time to float is evenings and weekends. The rock-breaking down the street should be done by the end of September and is barely affecting us. We will make a big announcement when we know for sure that your floats will be noise-free.
PS Pearl misses you all and one day hopes to get back to her Employee of the Month shifts at
