Aloha m’buddies!

Lots of folks (read: at least a person a day) have been asking how construction has been since our last post in June and if there have been any resolutions. We haven’t been able to provide much of an update as not much had changed. We had two false starts in July where we were told that the noisy activities were done, only to have it start up again after the construction team realized they had forgotten an area. This pattern has continued for the past 2.5 months into last week.

It’s been crickets from the city and the contractor’s insurance company. I don’t expect that there will be any conversation, let alone compensation. We have had a positive relationship with the construction team down the street who have been able to provide us with updates of their activities as well. Fortunately, we have not been nearly as impacted by their activities and they hope to be completed by the end of September.

I do want to share what we have done from our end to weather the storm. I want you to know that we want TFC to be here forever and will do what we can to be here for YOU. I share these things because there’s always a lot of behind the scenes sacrifices that happen:

🔨 A teammate was laid off; another one needed to leave and we chose not to re-hire anyone to keep overhead down. Jenelle and myself sailed the high seas of floating by ourselves this summer!
🔨 We shortened our operating hours.
🔨 I reduced my pay and even skipped a pay while increasing the number of working hours.
🔨 Kept operating costs down by making no unnecessary purchases, fixing what we can with what we have on hand. I’m basically a plumber now :)

We thank everyone who has checked in to see how they can help. We’ve been shown A LOT of love these last few months and believe in the goodness of community.

XOXO
Lindsay

TL;DR: The best time to float is evenings and weekends. The rock-breaking down the street should be done by the end of September and is barely affecting us. We will make a big announcement when we know for sure that your floats will be noise-free.

PS Pearl misses you all and one day hopes to get back to her Employee of the Month shifts at

Happy Float Ambassador Friday 🛟❣️

This week we have some good ol’ float advice from our pal Paul MacKay 📚

“…..While floating may not be for everyone, it’s usually pretty easy to allay whichever fear or stressor is standing in the way of someone giving it a try. One of the great things about floating is that your time at The Floatation Centre can absolutely be anything you want it to be, so if there’s an aspect of floating that makes you uncomfortable, you don’t have to do it!……

……..Even now I sometimes need to remind myself that I can make a float whatever I want it to be, and yours can be whatever you want it to be too. I once played Boards of Canada on my AirPods and floated on my stomach the entire time so that it felt like I was skydiving weightlessly for an hour into the endlessly dark expanding nothingness of the universe to a soundtrack of Scottish electronic music, and you know what? Nobody stopped me! A singular 10/10 experience.” 🪂🎶

Thanks so much for sharing your iconic experience with us all Paul we frigging love you! 😄🫶

We might be closed but we still have another Float Ambassador Friday coming at ya !🧡🛟

This week we have a piece written by the lovely Bridget O'Donnell Art & Soul by Bridget O'Donnell 🌻✍️

“The Art of Doing Nothing
The Most Productive Thing You Can Do 🪷

Can we normalize taking some time to just… do nothing?!
Here’s my hot take:  you don’t need to be falling apart to need rest.
I look at floatation therapy (or any therapy, for that matter) as required maintenance rather than emergency care. I wish everyone did! I can’t say I always have, though. It took major burnout for me to realize just how important taking care of myself really is.
Even when we rest, there’s often something going on in the background — a podcast, a TV show, music, conversations, scrolling, notifications, or something else competing for our attention.
In the float tank, there’s no outside world asking anything of you.
Nothing demanding your attention.
Floating has shown me what it feels like to truly melt into the present and tune in to how I’m feeling in my body. To stop disassociating and just sit with myself.
And it’s fascinating to see what you notice when there is finally nothing competing for your attention.
Thoughts you’ve been avoiding.
Emotions begging for acknowledgement.
Ideas that have been quietly waiting below the surface.
Or simply what your body has been asking for.
Sometimes, when we stop doing, we finally have the space to notice.

I recently published an undated weekly planner called Gentle Momentum, and I’m starting to see just how much influence the practice of floatation therapy has had on the idea behind the whole project — and, ultimately, on my way of being.
The gentleness of floating has taught me to slow down every once in a while. To stop trying for a moment.
And often, when I allow myself to slow down, that’s when I hit a breakthrough……. “ to finish reading you can head on out to our TFC Blog page on our website or head on over to Bridget’s substack ! 💛💙🩵

Stay tuned for when we have some of the planners she speaks of here for sale at TFC to get your own copy ! 😘

Hi friends! Yet another epic pop-up this year at one of my favourite local businesses is just around the corner! I'll be slinging Tarot at Saturday, September 26th between 10 am and 2 pm. I'll be offering 15 min readings for $30.

“When the world can feel so big we have no idea where to start — supporting, loving and encouraging business with real people, heart and perseverance seems like a natural first step to shaping the world we want to live in. A world where your neighbour fights against all odds to keep the dream of a safe space alive…” to continue reading Ellen’s blog head on our to the TFC Blog page or follow the direct link in our story 💖 🔗
