Behaviour Innovations

Behaviour Innovations Behaviour Innovations offers a full range of ABA services to individuals with autism and their families. http://www.behaviourinnovations.com

BI was established in September 1998 in response to the growing need for well-supervised, high-quality, ABA-driven services for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders and related disabilities. The directors are Dr. Nicole Walton-Allen and Dr. Joel Hundert, both psychologists and Board Certified Behaviour Analysts. What had begun out of a small office in Hamilton soon expanded to i

nclude Children’s College, a centre-based private school in Toronto, home-based services in southern Ontario, and the provision of a full range of ABA services to families in other regions across Canada, and in other countries. In 2000, the Behaviour Institute was successful at its bid to train more than 2000 instructor-therapists hired by the newly formed Regional Programs across the Province. In addition, BI has developed and delivered the following additional training programs:

A "train-the-trainer" package for training parents of young children with autism
"Advanced Topics Seminars Series" presented via video-conferencing by leading experts
A series of seven week long “supervisor internships” to supervisors at Regional Programs. Training newly hired staff at Regional Programs on how to take over the training of staff. Upgrading and revising the instructor-therapist training material. In 2002, Behaviour Institute provided consultation on the training designed by Children’s Mental Health Ontario on best practices for children with autism spectrum disorder and their families

Our mission at Behaviour Innovations is simple yet deeply meaningful: to provide innovative, evidence-based solutions that empower individuals and their families for a lifetime. ✨

What does this look like in practice every day?

💡 Innovative & Evidence-Based: We don’t rely on a one-size-fits-all approach. Our team uses the proven science of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) to design highly individualized, creative programs that fit each learner's unique strengths and needs.

🌱 Empowering Individuals: True empowerment means building absolute independence. Whether a teenager is learning to navigate a local shop or mastering a daily routine at home, we are focused on functional skills that give them autonomy.

👥 Supporting Families for a Lifetime: Progress shouldn't stop when a session ends. We actively partner with parents and caregivers because a skill isn’t truly mastered until it safely transfers to everyday life. We are building foundations that stick with your family for the long run.

We are incredibly grateful to the families, youth, and staff who make this mission come alive every single day in our community! 💙

A core pillar of our new Teen Life Program is Community Integration. It’s one thing to practice counting money or identifying items in a quiet room, but it’s completely different to navigate a busy local shop, find what you need, and interact with a cashier.

When our youth step out into the Etobicoke community with our staff, they are practicing:

🗺️ Navigation & Safety: Locating items and staying aware of their surroundings.

💬 Functional Communication: Asking a store associate for help or greeting the cashier.

🔢 Problem Solving: Budgeting, making choices, and managing real-world transitions.

By practicing these skills in real environments, we ensure that independence becomes a daily reality.

Small-group programming can create a powerful shift for youth as they learn alongside their peers. 👥 While individual ABA sessions build foundational skills, small-group instruction in our Teen Life Program supports real-world growth.

In this environment, participants naturally practice:
💬 Reading peer social cues and taking turns.
🤝 Collaborating on a shared goal
🌟 Learning by observing and cheering on their friends.

True social confidence is built through genuine connection and real-world experiences.

📣 We are thrilled to officially launch a brand-new Teen Life Program, specifically designed for youth aged 12–17.

As kids transition into their teenage years, their goals naturally evolve toward practical, everyday independence. Our Teen Life Program bridges the gap by blending clinical expertise with real-world application.

What makes this program unique? It’s a specialized hybrid model featuring:

1:1 Direct Teaching: Focused entirely on developing your teen's unique, individualized life skills and self-management goals.

👥 Small Group Instruction: Opportunities to practice social communication and peer collaboration in a supportive environment.

🌳 Community Integration: Taking skills right out into the real world to ensure generalization and practical application.
