Self-Care Sunday ❤️🌻🌿

Grounding.

This was my broken-arm summer. And apparently, when I couldn't do a whole lot of the things I normally do, I decided to grow things. 😂

Sunflowers. Hollyhocks. Edelweiss. Flowers I can't remember the names of. And an absolutely ridiculous number of bees. 🐝✨

But psychologically, I think I grew some things too.

Healing isn't always about getting back to who you were before something happened.

Sometimes it's about tending very gently to the person you are becoming because of it.

There is something profoundly regulating about putting your hand in the dirt. Watering something. Watching for tiny changes. Having absolutely no control over how quickly something grows, but showing up to care for it anyway.

Which, when you think about it, is a pretty good metaphor for recovery.

We don't get to yank on the sunflower and make it grow faster.

We don't get to yell at our nervous system, COME ON ALREADY.

We tend.

We rest.

We nourish.

We notice the tiny signs of life returning.

And eventually, something blooms. 🌻

So for this Self-Care Sunday, I'm curious:

What did you grow this summer?

Not just in your garden.

What did you recover from?

What did you survive?

What did you learn to live with?

What did you finally put down?

What part of you started coming back?

Maybe you're still in the dirt-and-watering stage.

That counts too. ❤️

It’s a different Self Care Sunday. ❤️

And this week, self care looks a little less like bubble baths and a little more like choosing to keep living your life even when your heart is bruised.

My grandma died this week.

She made it to 100 years old, lived one hell of a life, and was genuinely one of my best friends.

In my goodbye call with her, she gave me some final instructions. Because apparently even at 100, she was still the boss. 😂

She told me to be happy.

She told me to try not to cry too much in this life.

She told me to get off the couch, find a way forward, and keep living.

Not because we shouldn't feel our feelings. We absolutely should.

Grief deserves room. Sadness deserves tenderness. Sometimes life knocks the wind right out of us and pretending otherwise is just spiritual bypassing with better lighting.

But I think what Grandma was saying was:

Feel it. Be sad. Cry your face off when you need to.

Just don't unpack your suitcase and live there.

She told me that love is what matters in the end. And that no matter what happens to us, somehow, some way, we have to keep trying to move forward.

Choose growth.

Choose the tiny scrap of happiness available today.

Choose the walk, the friend, the ridiculous idea, the trip, the art, the sunshine, the thing that reminds you there is still LIFE happening around you.

Bloom in spite.

Water yourself with audacity.
I think Grandma knew what she was talking about.

She made it to 100. ❤️

So today I'm going to take her advice.

I'm going to miss her.

I'm going to love her.

I'm probably going to cry a lot more still, when I need to.

And then I'm going to get my ass off the couch and keep living this beautiful, heartbreaking, ridiculous life.

Because love remains.

And we are still here. 🌈🌸🌿

I believe deeply in intuition, energy, synchronicity, tarot, ritual and the unseen.

I’m also a therapist.

And one thing I will never do in this space is use spirituality to gaslight, blame, confuse or minimize someone’s very real human experience.

Not everything happens for a reason.
Not every painful relationship is a “twin flame journey.”

You did not necessarily manifest your illness, trauma, loss or hardship because you “weren’t vibrating high enough.”

And sometimes something awful happened because something awful happened.

Spiritual bypassing can sound beautiful while quietly causing harm.

Sometimes magical thinking is less about enlightenment and more about trying to create certainty around things that make us deeply uncomfortable: randomness, grief, injustice, illness, uncertainty and the reality that we cannot control everything.

You can believe in magic without abandoning critical thinking.

You can trust your intuition and still trust psychology, science and reality.

You can look for meaning in what happened without insisting it had to happen.

And you can be deeply spiritual without turning another person’s pain into a lesson the universe apparently assigned them.

That’s the kind of spirituality you’ll find here. 🌙

Magic with its feet on the ground. ✨ I'm not going to minimize your trauma by telling you it didn't happen or that it is your fault (nor did your actions in a past life cause it - also known as "blame").

How was spiritual bypassing used against you? I'd love to know ♥️

Self-Care Sunday ❤️

Because apparently some of us inherited work ethic instead of generational wealth, and I would like to formally request an exchange. 😆

Things feel heavy right now. BC is on fire. The world feels increasingly scary and uncertain. The news is relentless. And somehow we’re all still expected to answer emails, buy groceries, remember our passwords, drink enough water and function like this is all perfectly normal.

It’s not.

So today, I’m thinking about self-care less as bubble baths and spa days and more as tending to the nervous system that is carrying you through all of this.

Turn off the news for a while.
Go outside if the air is safe where you are.

Call someone who makes you laugh.

Make something.

Eat something delicious.

Put your phone down.

Take the nap.

Cancel something.

Find one tiny pocket of beauty in a world that feels like too much.

You do not have to personally carry the entire flaming dumpster of humanity today. ❤️

Rest is not something we earn after we have finished everything.

Because, inconveniently, everything is never finished.

How are you taking care of yourself this Self-Care Sunday? ❤️
