How's your summer going? Ours is going pretty darn good.

Last Friday, we gathered at Beatty Park in Keewatin for our Annual Community Picnic, where we were happy to welcome over 200 community members to make the most of the season with us.

A special shout out goes to our WELL Committee, which graciously put on a Maker's Showcase featuring dozens upon dozens of different art pieces for everybody to check out. Thank you as well to Gropp's Country Catering for helping us make sure no one left hungry!

How are you making the most of the summer? Let us know in the comments below!

Today, our Chief Executive Officer Deborah Everley was invited to participate in a reception for the Honourable Edith Dumont, Ontario's Lieutenant Governor, who is currently visiting Kenora.

As the province's official representative of the Monarchy of Canada and King Charles III, she was more than happy to hear about KACL's perspectives on inclusion, belonging, accessibility, and so many other important issues and causes that we champion on a daily basis.

Conversation and connection are central to the work that we do, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to share about our mission today alongside such a passionate fellow advocate.

KACL would like to recognize today as National Indigenous Peoples Day and celebrate it as an opportunity to honour the rich histories and diverse cultures of the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples who have called Turtle Island home since time immemorial.

Here in the heart of Treaty 3 territory, we are so grateful to provide service alongside so many First Nation-led organizations and Indigenous community partners, all of which are amazing stewards of the Land and proud Knowledge Keepers who teach us something new every day, and inspire us to be the best allies we can be.

To this end, our teams routinely seek to engage with Indigenous practices and perspectives whenever we can, learning directly from youth, elders and other cultural stakeholders. While this pursuit is a year-round endeavour for our organization, on this day in particular, we are proudly calling attention to its importance and making our commitment to it clear.

Whether it is learning from the Seven Grandfather Teachings, exploring the truest meanings of mino bimaadiziwin, standing behind Truth and Reconciliation, or simply taking in the holistic beauty of the culture, KACL will continually learn in shared spaces with our Indigenous neighbours, and we invite the rest of the community to walk alongside us on this journey.

June 18 is Infant and Child Development Day across Ontario, and here at KACL, we took time today to both honour it and celebrate our Children's Services Team.

This small but mighty crew routinely walks alongside more than 125 children and their families during some of the most important years of their lives with compassion, curiosity, and commitment - all of which is felt in every milestone reached, every family supported, and every child who is given the opportunity to thrive.

Who is eligible for our Infant and Child Development program? All families residing in the Kenora are who have a child between the ages of 0-6, who have a developmental concern related to either a diagnosis, biological event or psychological factor.

For children older than 6 all the way up to age 18, KACL also has a dedicated Child and Youth program for children living with autism, an intellectual disability, or a developmental disability when accompanied by other criteria.
