Over the years Piwapan Wellness Centre has offered a full range of residential and outreach services specializing in helping women and children impacted by family violence. Piwapan plays a key role in servicing La Ronge area and small communities in Northern SK.

1st Annual Blue Jean Jacket Day!

On June 6, Piwapan Wellness Centre hosted it's 1st Annual Blue Jean Jacket Day by participating in an awareness walk to honour our Missing, Murdered and Exploited Indigenous Men and Boys.

Blue Jean Jacket Day was launched for the first time in Edmonton on June 6, 2023 and raises awareness about missing and murdered Indigenous men and boys. It is meant to serve as a counterpart to Red Dress Day, which takes place on May 5.

We would like to thank the following people and/or organizations as this day could not have gone as planned without their help: Piwapan Wellness Centre Staff, NorthSask Victim Services, Lac La Ronge Indian Band and it's Health Services - Cultural Department, La Ronge RCMP, Fire Department and EMS, Northern Boyz Drum Group, Elder Carson Poitras and all the people who participated in our walk.

The logo for Sexual Violence Prevention Month (SVPM) features the Lotus Flower, a symbol of strength and resilience that came to us through a survivor of sexual violence.

The lotus flower grows through murky, muddy waters, and still turns out beautiful. Much like a lotus flower, survivors must navigate the murky mud of challenging systemic conditions and obstacles during their healing journey. This strength and beauty, despite adversity, is a hopeful symbol.

Including the lotus in the SVPM logo is a reinforcement that survivors’ courageous spirits are at the centre of prevention efforts. Sexual Violence Prevention Month is our commitment to advocating for the societal and systemic conditions necessary to prevent violence before it begins.
