We are honored to welcome Ty Salmon back to the Martin Brothers family as a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer.

As a descendant of the Salmon family—and as a fourth generation funeral director and embalmer—caring for this community has been a part of Ty’s story since childhood. Growing up around this work instilled in him a profound dedication to the families of his hometown. After beginning his apprenticeship with us in 2020, Ty spent three years sharing his quiet, steady hand with the community of St. Paul before returning home to Lethbridge this summer.

Yesterday, Jack, Will, and Alexis had the privilege of hitting the greens for the 2026 Lethbridge Polytechnic Golf Tournament. Finding time to gather, share a few laughs, and support the Kodiaks is what being a neighbor in Lethbridge is all about.

While working to document and preserve the history of Martin Bros., we recently came across these remarkable photographs in the A. E. Cross collection held by the University of Calgary in the Glenbow Archives. The photographs were taken at St. Patrick's Church (Now a part of All Saints Roman Catholic Parish) and St. Patrick's Cemetery on April 21, 1960—but whose funeral they captured was not immediately apparent. Curious whether Martin Bros. had been involved, we went back to our original 1960 funeral ledger. There we found the answer: Anton Lednik, age 51, whose Requiem High Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's at 11:00 that morning, followed by burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Historical issues of the Lethbridge Herald helped fill in the rest of the story. Born in Czechoslovakia, Anton and his wife came to Southern Alberta in 1938, settling first at Barnwell. He later farmed in the Picture Butte district before moving to Lethbridge in 1953. Our ledger identifies the priest conducting the funeral as Rev. Joseph Cashen, whose ministry in Lethbridge we were also able to confirm through the Herald. More than six decades later, an A. E. Cross photographic negative, a handwritten Martin Bros. funeral ledger, and the pages of the local newspaper have come together to put names and a story back to these images.
For generations of Lethbridge Catholics, St. Patrick's has been the setting for some of life's most important moments. These photographs offer an extraordinary glimpse inside of Lethbridge's oldest Catholic church as it appeared in 1960—its pews filled for a Requiem High Mass celebrated in the pre-Vatican II era—and are a reminder of just how much of our community's history is contained within its walls. As we continue working with the Galt Museum & Archives to preserve and digitize Martin Bros. records dating back more than a century, we would love your help: do you recognize a parent, grandparent, relative or familiar Lethbridge face in these photographs?

Today, Jack Martin met with Andrew Chernevych from the Galt Museum & Archives to begin a formal archival process of the Martin Brothers historical records, dating back to 1907. We are honored for the incredible preservation work the Galt Museum does for the city of Lethbridge and to contribute to its dedication to preserving and telling the story of our community.

For 120 years, we have been given the profound privilege of listening to the stories of the families of Lethbridge & Southern Alberta. Protecting those stories today, and for the generations to come, remains our greatest honor. A city is built entirely on the stories of the people who live there.

Because this history truly belongs to the community, we want to invite you to be a part of this preservation. If your family holds any historical photographs, documents, or memories connected to Martin Brothers over the last century, we would be deeply grateful if you shared them with us.
