"I've been abducted by aliens. I don't know who this body belongs to but it's not mine."
That's what I said to my doctor in 2022.
I expected the postpartum fog to lift like it did after my first two pregnancies. It didn't.
I saw my doctor more in two years than I had in the previous ten. She offered antidepressants first. I declined. I asked for bloodwork. She said it wouldn't tell me anything. I left feeling dismissed — but honestly, she wasn't wrong. Standard bloodwork wasn't going to show what was actually happening.
So I read every book. Tried Wellbutrin. It was like taking Tic Tacs. Tried Concerta — mid-afternoon headaches every day and my brain still running at a million miles a minute. Went back. Demanded we treat the perimenopause piece.
That's when I started feeling like myself again.
Not a switch. Not an overnight fix. But something shifted. Enough that I could think again. Enough that the woman in the mirror started looking familiar.
18 years as a clinician. I thought I understood the body pretty well.
Perimenopause humbled me in ways I didn't see coming.
If you're in the "who is this person" stage right now — you're not losing it. Your biology is moving faster than your understanding of it. That gap is closeable. But first you have to stop blaming yourself for being confused by something nobody actually explained to you.
That's where I want to start.
If this landed, the Soul Tired Quiz is a good first step — it helps identify which pattern is driving what you're feeling. Three minutes: https://bit.ly/soultiredquiz
