A very fond farewell to our amazing Chief Resident Dr Kellie MacDonald and our fantastic OB core Dr Yasaman Javadzadeh. This dynamic duo worked tirelessly to support our surgical service this summer.

Dr MacDonald showed off her excellent surgical skills and was a fantastic mentor to the medical students and junior residents. She wins the award for best patient updates and texts and most organized chief resident! Dr MacDonald was always reading and learning about the interesting cases that came our way and provided an exceptional grand rounds.

Dr Javadzadeh continued to shine bright and excelled throughout the rotation. We have enjoyed seeing her continued improvement since she was first here in her internship year! She is an upcoming star in our program!

What an amazing team and a great rotation. Good luck with your next rotations and we can’t wait to see you again soon!

A health crisis can change daily life for an entire family — and much of that impact goes unseen.

Recently, North York General Hospital leaders Seanna Millar and Dr. Everton Gooden joined CP24 Toronto's Breaking News to discuss compassionate care and Canada’s Health Impact Report, a national study commissioned by NYG. Among those affected by a serious illness or health crisis, 70 per cent said they hid or minimized the toll it took on them.

We asked our own social media community: Have you or a loved one ever faced a health crisis? 94 per cent of respondents said yes. Of those, 93 per cent said they hid or downplayed how it affected their day-to-day lives.

These personal experiences reflect why the compassionate care that our hospital is known for matters.

Our new creative, appearing now across the city, brings our Here for Life brand to life by highlighting how NYG sees the whole person — and the loved ones carrying the experience alongside them.

Through our $500-million Here for Life Campaign, we’re raising funds to expand care spaces, equip our teams with critical tools and technology, and advance research and innovation — with compassionate care remaining at the heart of everything we do.

Dr Nick Shilletto was busy delivering many babies today on his 30th anniversary of starting at NYGH!!!

Over the last three decades, Dr Shilletto has provided outstanding care, supported thousands of patients and families, and trained and mentored generations of students, many of whom have gone on to become his colleagues.

Dr Shilletto has been a trusted colleague, a generous mentor, and a true friend to so many of us. His calm presence, good judgment, kindness, and willingness to help have shaped the culture of our department as much as his clinical expertise in obstetrics. NYGH is a better place because of him.

Please let us take a moment to congratulate Dr Shilletto on this extraordinary milestone and thank him for the friendship, collegiality, dedication, expertise, and service he has shared with many of us over the past 3 decades!!!

This New York Times article is such a great summary of what we at NYGHOBGYN have been telling our patients for years. There are ways that we can reduce our cancer risk that are widely known but not frequently adopted.

Getting the HPV vaccine and quitting smoking can dramatically reduce your risk of cervix cancer.

Opportunistic salpingectomy (fallopian tube removal) can dramatically reduce the risk of ovarian cancer. At NYGHOBGYN you can have this done during your scheduled or unscheduled cesarean section, or any other gynecologic procedure (if you do not require your fallopian tubes for fertility reasons).

THE BEST NEWS OF ALL is that you can now request this procedure during other abdominal surgeries at NYGH.
