To surrender is to relax, trust, and simply be.

Significance of Guru Purnima

Guru is made up of two syllables: Gu, meaning darkness or unconsciousness, and Ru, meaning the one who dispels that darkness and leads us toward awareness.

Guru Purnima falls during the month of Ashadh, when the full moon is often veiled by monsoon clouds. It beautifully symbolizes the relationship between the Master and the disciples. Just as the moon is hidden behind clouds, the Master's light is surrounded by disciples who have carried lifetimes of unconsciousness and darkness.

In the loving presence of the Master, that darkness gradually begins to dissolve. Unconsciousness transforms into awareness, suffering into joy, and sleep into awakening. Guru Purnima is a celebration of gratitude for the one who illuminates the path from darkness to light and from ignorance to consciousness.
