The other day on my run and truck drove past and before I knew it I was in tears. Why? Because the man smiled at me. That’s it. A smile from a stranger.
It happened last fall too when a bus driver waved at me.
Or that time two birds crossed paths above me in the sky.
I remember crying over the apple blossom flowers and the smell of my lilacs in the spring and the sound crackling fire back in December.
The way the sunlight came through the window onto my pillow.
Each of these gorgeous moments were filled with grief too. Because sometimes the world continuing on around you while you try to make sense of it all brings up the pain you’re hiding so well. Sometimes normal moments hurt when normal no longer exists.
Grief has a way of showing up out of nowhere doesn’t it? What is the most surprising thing that triggered your grief in a moment you least expected it?
