I am a mother.
Which means pieces of me
exist outside of my body now.

My heart walks around in little people
with scraped knees, sleepy eyes, loud laughter,
and fingerprints on everything I own.

I am a mother.

I have learned how to keep going
while running on empty.

How to make dinner while holding a crying baby.
How to smile through exhaustion.
How to carry the mental weight of an entire family
without anyone fully seeing it.

I have been needed
before the sun rises
and long after everyone else has fallen asleep.

And somehow,
I still show up.

Because mothers do.

We are the comfort after nightmares.
The keeper of birthdays and bandages.
The voice saying “be careful” and “I’m proud of you.”
The safe place.
The soft landing.

And people will say motherhood is small.
Ordinary.
Domestic.

But there is nothing small about raising souls.

There is nothing ordinary
about pouring yourself into another human being
day after day
without applause.

Motherhood is holy work.

It is sacrifice wrapped in tenderness.
Strength hidden inside gentleness.
It is giving pieces of yourself away willingly
because love asks you to.

I am a mother.

I have changed in ways nobody warned me about.

I became softer
and stronger at the same time.

I learned that love can make you terrified.
That exhaustion and gratitude can coexist.
That sometimes the hardest days
are also the holiest ones.

And one day,
these little voices won’t echo through my house anymore.

The laundry piles will shrink.
The toys will disappear.
The sticky handprints will fade from the windows.

But I know this now:

What mothers build
does not disappear.

Because long after children grow,
they still carry the way their mother loved them.

And maybe that is the true power of motherhood.

To leave pieces of your love
inside another person forever.

Cheryl Snyder @ Your Wellness Journey would like to wish All mothers out there.....Mothers expecting, mothers whom have lost , mothers with mothers gone , mothers in denial of this gift of BEING a mother, mothers who are and didn't have to be ( step) , and all Mothers in heaven , to all mothers in active addiction , and to all the sleepless night mothers over their babies that have chosen that path as well.

To all my dear patients at Your Wellness Journey , Cheryl Snyder will be away on a short professional sabbatical to Vancouver. The clinic will be closed April 15th til April 20th.
