We provide pollen forecasts to help you and those you love manage environmental allergies. Aerobiology Research Laboratories analyzes pollen and spore samples to create forecasts for allergy sufferers as seen on the Weather Network, Johnson and Johnson and now through our new personalized subscription program providing you with the exact info you want and need to improve your quality o

f life. HOW WE DO IT

Aerobiology Research Laboratories (ARL) gathers pollen and spore samples daily using the innovative ARL aeroallergen rotation impaction samplers from 30 monitoring stations across Canada. Samples are collected by associates in the field and shipped to Aerobiology Research Laboratories, where they are analyzed by our highly trained laboratory staff. WHY WE DO IT

Over 9 million Canadians suffer from seasonal allergies and close to 1 million pets (mainly dogs). The counts, or total number of particles per cubic meter of air sampled for each identified particle type, are stored in an ever-growing data warehouse. This database allows us to query and summarize current and historical allergen levels in a flexible and efficient manner, supporting our research and forecasting operations as well as the data needs of our clients. This data provides valuable information in development of medications, education and knowing the forecast for pollen levels can help you regulate outdoor activities allowing you to have more control over your quality of life. What started as low levels has turned into HIGH grass pollen in some parts of Canada, with many allergy sufferers already feeling the effects.

Calgary… are you guys ok? 😅🌲💛

Because this much pine pollen feels personal at this point.

🟡 Cars are yellow.
🟡 Patios are yellow.
🟡 The air is yellow.
🟡 Some of you are probably 80% pollen now.

Peak pine pollen season has officially arrived.

The good news? Pine pollen looks dramatic, but thanks to its larger size, it’s generally less allergenic than smaller pollens like grass or birch.

The bad news? It still gets absolutely everywhere.

At this point, we’re not washing our cars… we’re just rinsing off nature’s glitter. 😂

‼️ PSA for allergy sufferers: if you are still relying on Benadryl for allergy symptoms, it is time to talk to your allergist or pharmacist about better options.

Many allergists no longer recommend Benadryl for routine allergy management because of its side effects, including drowsiness, brain fog, impaired driving, and next-day grogginess. There are newer antihistamines available that provide longer-lasting symptom relief with fewer side effects.

In many provinces, pharmacists can also help recommend alternatives without a doctor’s appointment. Reactine is made by the same company as Benadryl and is often a better option for daytime allergy relief.

🚨Canada’s pollen season is arriving late… and all at once.

After one of the coldest spring starts in recent years, trees that normally release pollen weeks apart are now overlapping across many parts of Canada. That means allergy sufferers are getting hit with multiple pollen types at the same time instead of in waves.

Right now, many regions are seeing:
• High birch and poplar pollen
• Oak rapidly increasing
• Alder, maple, cedar, elm, fruit tree, and pine pollen entering the mix together

For allergy sufferers, this can mean:

Albertans with pollen allergies, this is your warning ☣️

A short but very intense pollen season is unfolding across Alberta this year.

We’re seeing high to very high pollen levels in both Edmonton and Calgary, with poplar and birch currently dominating the air. Oak is ramping up quickly, while alder, cedar, elm, maple, fruit trees, and pine are all adding to a layered mix of allergens.

The spike is being driven by a delayed start to spring due to cold March temperatures, followed by multiple tree species releasing pollen at the same time. That overlap is what’s pushing exposure higher than usual.

If you’re allergic, symptoms may feel stronger this year simply because so many pollen types are peaking together.

What helps right now:

👉 mask up on high days
👉 wash clothes after being outside
👉 keep pets off furniture after outdoor time

This spring gave Saskatchewan allergy sufferers a false sense of security..

After weeks of cold weather, snow, and frozen ground, tree pollen season didn’t disappear. It got delayed.

Now ash, birch, poplar, maple, alder, and other trees are blooming at the same time, creating a shorter but much more intense allergy season across Saskatchewan.

If your allergies suddenly exploded this week, you’re not imagining it.

The peak is expected through mid-May, with fast-rising pollen levels hitting many parts of the province all at once. According to our data, pollen levels in Canada have more than doubled over the last 35 years.

The surprising part?

Despite this intense season, Saskatoon was still ranked one of the best Canadian cities for people with tree allergies.
