We're so glad to welcome Melanie Budd to the Connected Counselling Services team!

Melanie is an Intern Therapist completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University, and she brings a perspective to this work that's grounded in real, lived experience.

Melanie spent 15 years serving in the military before recently transitioning into civilian life, and that journey shapes everything about how she shows up for clients. She knows firsthand the pressure that comes with uniformed service - the pull to blend in, hold it together, and meet expectations that aren't always your own. In her work, she creates space to set those expectations aside and explore who you are as a whole person, underneath the roles you've had to play. She's also a mil spouse, and she’s especially glad to support other military spouses, families, and anyone navigating a transition out of service.

Melanie's approach is also deeply informed by her own experience with neurodivergence. She's passionate about neurodivergent-affirming care - therapy that doesn't ask you to mask, perform, or fit a mold, but instead meets you exactly where you are. Drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, existential and trauma-informed approaches, Melanie works with adults and youth (16+), and neurodivergent folks on executive functioning, anxiety, depression, self-acceptance, identity exploration, burnout, and chronic illness or pain.

If you're feeling lost, disconnected, or like you've lost touch with your most authentic self, Melanie would love to connect. She's currently accepting new clients for in-person and virtual sessions, with a free 15-minute consultation to see if you're a good fit. Sessions range from $0–$60 to keep support accessible. Welcome to the team, Melanie! 💛

Help me offer a warm hello to Ashley Prince, the newest Registered Social Worker joining Connected Counselling Services! 👋🏼

Ashley holds a Master of Social Work from Carleton University and brings over a decade of experience supporting people through anxiety, burnout, grief, parenting struggles, and the ripple effects of trauma, using approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, and Polyvagal Theory. She has a soft spot for new parents just finding their footing, drawing on her own lived experience alongside her clinical training.

Ashley believes healing is less about reaching some imaginary finish line and more about making small daily choices that bring you back to yourself- mind and body together. She’s in the office Mondays and Wednesdays and is currently welcoming new adult and older youth clients starting in early August.

So excited to have her on the team, and we know you will be too! If you’d like to book with Ashley please call or text Alora or Katy- our fabulous admins- at 613 585-3834. Connected Counselling Services Employee of the Month: Wellesley! This month, Wellesley has outshone the rest of the team, earning the title of top performer ahead of every other therapist on staff.

Her strengths include zero cancellations, a flawless record of greeting every single person who walks through the door like they’re the most important human alive, an uncanny ability to sense exactly when someone needs a head on their lap, and a professional demeanor that has never once required a corrective conversation.

Her supervisor, registered psychotherapist Kevin Klin, happens to also be her dad, which we’re told is a coincidence and definitely not favouritism or nepotism. He has generously agreed to keep bringing her in - and he even seems ok with the fact that she’s clearly angling for his job.

Although Wellesley’s clinical notes remain minimal (tail wags) it’s because she doesn’t believe in paperwork. Congratulations Wellesley!!! We love you lots 🥰

Huge congrats to Jai Anderson (), this year’s recipient of the Skip Ross Memorial Bursary. Jai is a recent Fellowes High School Graduate!!! Way to go!

Connected Counselling Services is proud to sponsor this bursary every year as part of our ongoing personal commitment to reconciliation and reparation work with local Indigenous communities. Skip Ross was an elder who dedicated so much of his time to supporting students across Renfrew County in learning Indigenous culture, traditions, and knowledge, and this bursary carries his legacy forward.

It was an honour to present the award alongside his sister, Melanie Ross (.rosslacaille), and my hope is that this becomes an annual tradition with Melanie presenting the award each year 🧡

Jai also shared some of his gifts through drumming and singing at the event, and it was truly moving to witness. Jai will be heading to Algonquin College to study culinary arts, and we cannot wait to see all that he accomplishes. Congratulations, Jai!

Well, better late than never (where has the rest of June disappeared to???)…. Happy Pride, everyone!!!!!
❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🩷🩶🤍🖤🤎

It’s our first Pride in our forever location at 421 Boundary Road and we’re genuinely thrilled to fly our flag in our new neighborhood!!

At Connected Counselling Services, we’re all either members of the q***r community (like me, Adrienne, a pan femme) or allies showing up to support it. And, our commitment to 2SLGBTQIA+ affirmation isn’t performance - it’s a big part of our value system, who we are, and how we work.

If you’re looking for a therapist who gets it, who doesn’t require you to explain yourself, who sees your identity as part of what makes you you, we’re here. In Pembroke. In person and online. Year-round, not just in June!!!!

Don’t tell my cats… but I want you to meet Fran, who showed up on Friday thinking she was covering for Alora at the front desk!!

Fran is actually a trained therapy dog who occasionally visits us at Connected Counselling Services. Marlee Johnston RP (Qualifying) is her mum- and when Fran’s not too busy answering the phones or cozying up to me- she’s living her best life on Instagram at .

Here’s the thing: that photo of me (Adrienne) cuddling up to Franny? That’s not just a cute photo. That’s evidence of Fran’s gentleness! As someone who spent years being genuinely afraid of dogs, me now voluntarily pressing my face against one SAYS A LOT about her personality!

No judgment. No pressure. Fran just shows up, being gentle, co-regulating as she goes, and good things happen.

Don’t worry. If dogs aren’t your thing but therapy is, we’ve still got you. If neither feels safe yet, that’s okay too. We’ll meet you there.

To book in with Marlee, or another one of our therapists, reach out by phone or text today at 613 585-3834, email us at [email protected] or book online at https://connectedcounsellingservices.janeapp.com/

Friends- we have some bittersweet news to share! We are saying a heartfelt goodbye to our wonderful Jess, who is moving on to focus on her other career. Jess, your warmth, dedication, and brilliant insurance billing skills made Connected Counselling Services a better place. We are so grateful for everything you brought to our team and wish you all the best in your next chapter!!! 🥲

And now for the exciting part - we are thrilled to welcome Katy to the Connected Counselling Services family! A York University graduate in Behavioural Psychology, Katy brings exactly what we love in a team member: genuine warmth, and a gift for making people feel at ease the moment they walk through the door. Known for her kindness, positive energy, and ability to build real connections, she fits right in with the rest of the team. Recently making the move from Toronto to the Ottawa Valley, she is fully embracing small-town life and everything that comes with it - and we could not be happier to have her!

When she is not brightening our waiting room or navigating a benefits claim like a pro, you will find her deep in a board game, rewatching a Disney classic, or being supervised by one of her five cats 🐈.

Please join us in giving Katy the warmest Connected Counselling Services welcome!

CCS is growing and we are so excited to introduce our newest therapist, Stephanie Belaire, RSW!

Stephanie is already a familiar face in our community, known for her incredible work with children and families, and we are so thrilled she is bringing that experience and heart to our team.

Her approach is trauma-informed, relational and collaborative - which is just a fancy way of saying she will actually meet you where you are and help you make sense of what you are carrying in a way that feels real and manageable. She supports people navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, burnout, life transitions, parenting stress, relationship challenges and emotional regulation - and she works with kids and teens too, as well as the parents trying to figure it all out alongside them.

Stephanie also has a special place in her heart for perinatal mental health. Pregnancy, postpartum, fertility, birth trauma, perinatal loss - if you are in that season of life and struggling, she is exactly who you want in your corner.

She’s accepting new clients now, in person in Renfrew County and virtually anywhere in Ontario. Book a free consult through our Jane link or give us a call at 613 585-3834.

You don’t need to have it all figured out first - reaching out is the whole first step. Welcome to the team Steph, we are so glad you are here!

This is a portrait of Lili Elbe, painted by her wife, artist Gerda Wegener. Dated 1929, it is one of the earliest known artistic representations of a transgender woman.

Lili was among the first trans people to live openly and publicly, and to pursue gender-affirming surgery - a series of pioneering procedures performed in Berlin and Dresden. Tragically, she died in 1931 from complications following her final surgery.

What makes this portrait so striking is how Gerda painted Lili - not as spectacle, not as curiosity, but with beauty, elegance, and full humanity. I’m also such a fan of Lili’s flapper style- what an icon!!

Happy to have found such a gorgeous print for our new clinic - capturing vintage q***r love 🩷🩵🤍
