It’s with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Charles Fontaine on August 14, 2026, at the age of 73 years.
Robert leaves to mourn his wife Wanda Fontaine, his sister Beatrice Guimond, his children Christian Edwards (Shawna), Cheryl Bird (Dennis), Dave Dorie (Kathy), Christopher Courchene (Tammy), Ashley Daniels (George), Wesley Fontaine (Kerrie), Faith Fontaine (Sheldon), Cassy Daniels (Leonard), Tyler Fontaine (Shania), Robby Fontaine (Sayde), Jacob Fontaine and Noah Fontaine, as well as his 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by his mom Esther Fontaine, stepdad Alphonse Fontaine, his dad Phillip Guimond, his daughter Krystal Courchene, his siblings Mabel Harry, Roger Girard and Charles Fontaine.

Robert was born on October 31, 1952, in Pine Falls, Manitoba. He resided in Sagkeeng most of his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Dad loved his Winnipeg Jets, scratch tickets, and spending time with his grandchildren and kids. Dad worked many jobs, he was arena attendant/Zamboni driver, school bus driver, shop teacher, contractor, he also was a volunteer firefighter for many years with Sagkeeng Fire Department, he even maintained the Fire Hall on the North Shore. He volunteered his time coaching and driving kids to their games and being a board member for Sagkeeng CFS. Halloween was his favorite time of the year; he loved being silly and always wanted to make you smile or laugh. Dad had a great sense of humour, always joking around with everyone. He was an amazing father, he always built and fixed things for his family. He will be deeply missed by his wife and family.

Wake is being held Monday, August 17 to Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church Hall, Sagkeeng First Nation, Mb. Funeral service will follow in the Church on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 2:00 pm, with Father Paul officiating. Interment at a later date.

Elmer was predeceased by his parents Harry W. and Grace (Hardisty) Williams, brothers Lawrence Hardisty, George, Joe, Victor and Hymie Williams, sisters Lorraine Buffy Williams, Lenore Williams and Ruth Williams Seymour, nephews Ron Courchene, Norman Williams and Henry Hardisty, great-nephew Riley Moneyas Jr., nieces., Helen Peebles, Marie Bear., Sharon Williams and Channell Williams, great-nieces Samantha Moneyas and Jane Jane Moneyas and cuzzin Shishonne Williams.

He leaves to mourn the Williams family and cuzzins Hilda Bjork Williams and Sandra Courchene, nieces Delores, Sheila Grace, Patsy (Henry), Betty (Ben), Agnes (Dan), Melanie, Carmen, Laurel and Whitney, nephews Earle, Dale (Angie), Perry, Roy, Ken, Randy, Ryan and Harold, family and friends from Hollow Water, Black River, Mb, and Williams Family in Alberta Canada.

Wake services will be held at the Hollow Water Hall, Hollow Water First Nation, Mb, from Wednesday, July 29 to Friday, July 31, 2026. Funeral service will be held at Hollow Water Hall, Hollow Water First Nation, Mb on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 2:00 pm, with interment in the Hollow Water Anglican Cemetery.

Leonard leaves to mourn his children Crystal, Evan Michael and Presley, his granddaughter Ryleah, sister Jackie, numerous cousins, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Elaine and Percy, stepdad Lou, brothers Dave and Joey, sisters Leona and Peggy, numerous relatives and friends.

Peacefully, with family by her side Karen Lynn Courchene passed away on July 14, 2026, at the age of 55 years.

Karen leaves to mourn her mother Madeline Courchene, her children Tyler, Chantelle (Robert), Katelynn (Robert), Alyssa (Robert) and Robert Jr. (Robert), her brothers Gerald and Luke (Maggie), her uncle Harold (Brenda) Fontaine, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her father Ephrem Courchene, sister Sandra Fontaine, grandmother Elizabeth Fontaine, grandfather Edward Daniels, father of Tyler; Allan Ackegan, numerous aunties, uncles, and relatives.

Stacy Lee Eaglestick “Skunk”

Peacefully, with family by her side Stacy Lee Eaglestick passed away on July 3, 2026, at the age of 52 years.

Stacy will be deeply and forever missed by her children Holly and Adam, siblings Kevin and Kristin (Jason), auntie Sandra (Dennis) and uncle Louie (Nancy), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Douglas Fontaine and Marie Eaglestick, brothers Doug Jr., Steve and Desmond, sisters Mary and Geraldine, Grandpa John Eaglestick, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Stacy was a devoted mother to her children. As a single mom most of the time, she did the best she could and always did. Another thing about Stacy was she was always a good friend to many; many people knew her and she was always welcoming and helping others if she can. We’re sure going to miss you, you were gone too soon. We’ll see you later.

Thank you to all the nurses, doctors and HCA’s who cared for her for the past while.

It’s with sadness that we announce the passing of Austin David Bruyere, on June 30, 2026, at the age of 27 years.

Austin leaves to mourn his passing his mom Crystal McLean (Ian Sinclair), dad Phillip Spence, grandmothers Janet Bruyere, Lorraine Bruyere and Margaret Spence, grandfather Eric Guimond, his siblings McKenzie, Cherish, Jaxson, Javian, Ianna, Bentley, Harvee, Ian Jr., Phillip Jr., Corbin, Nelson, and Rihanna, his beautiful daughters Talayla, Ava, Aalyiah, and Rosanna, his son Kingston, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his grandpa Richard Spence, grandfather Harvey Bear, uncle Shawn, cousins Fonessa, Leslie, James Jr., and Tracy.

Patsy leaves to mourn her children Cody, Kenneth Jr. (Roxanne), Amber Lynn, her grandchildren Kenny, Athena, Mercedes, Jacob, Jaxson, Kingston, Kingsley, Bentley and Louis, her siblings, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Kenneth, her parents Stanley and Mirtle.

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Vance Swampy on June 24, 2026, at the age of 47, with his parents by his side.

He will be deeply missed by his partner Kayleen and her children Anthony, Jordon, Dayton, Dream and Dakota; his children Dylan, Faron, Cree-Lynn, Shaelie (Brandon) and Maeres (Colton); his only granddaughter Rozeyah; his parents Henry and Frances Swampy; his siblings Jonathan (Dawn), Courtney (Dereck) and his baby sister Winonah (Brian) (Willie, Marlene, Marvin and Serena); his special friends: Shawn and Jay; his babysitters Noreen, Claudette and Carol Guimond; he willingly shared his parents with: Brittany (Carlos), Jason (June), Russell, Whitney, Mikayla, Sonny (Chantel) and Kaine; his Aunts and Uncles Garrett (Crystal), John (Julia), Harold, Marcel, Devon, Mario, Doris (Jorge), Delores, Noreen (Sterling), Amelia, Beatrice, Barbara and Helen; his Great Aunts Ruth Norton and Therese Swampy, numerous cousins, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Melvina, his grandparents, George and Therese Courchene and JBD and Esther Swampy, his brother Joseph, his aunts and uncles, Karen-Lynn, Liza, Marge (Gordon), Noella (Morris), John (Lena), Roger and Ronald (Boyish) Sara (Todlum); his cousins, Sophia, Blaine, Enrique, Alfred, Miranda, Esther, Micah, Vanessa, Georgie, Phillip, Jennifer, Destiny, Lorissa, Dreyden and baby Frances.

Vance was born January 10, 1979, and lived both in Sagkeeng and Winnipeg. He attended Anicinabe, Sagkeeng and Children of the Earth schools. Vance was very artistic and an excellent painter. He painted many paintings which will live on. He was always willing to help family and friends anytime of day or night. He would come to the rescue.

He enjoyed driving and learned at an early age. He did deliveries for Sagkeeng First Nation for off reserve members. He delivered hundreds of hampers during Covid. He was security for Sagkeeng Assemblies and Sagkeeng Law.

He will be greatly missed by many.

Thanks to the nurses and doctors at the St Boniface Hospital 6th floor South for their care for Vance. Thank you to our relatives and many visitors who called and came by to support us.

Visitation is being held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Eternal Grace Funeral Home, 1111 Logan Ave, Winnipeg, Mb from 6:30 to 9:00pm. Wake service immediately following at 48017 South Shore Rd. Sagkeeng First Nation, Mb, from June 27, 2026, to Monday, June 29, 2026. Funeral service is being held at the St. Alexander Roman Catholic Church on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 2:00 pm with final viewing at 1:00pm with Father Paul Nguyen officiating.
