In therapy, we often explore not only what a person is doing, but what they may be experiencing underneath the behavior.
Behaviors that are labeled as "difficult," "unmotivated," or "attention-seeking" can sometimes be expressions of stress, anxiety, emotional pain, fear of failure, executive functioning difficulties, or a need for connection and support.
Understanding does not mean excusing harmful behavior—it means identifying the underlying need so that meaningful change can occur.
Connection creates safety. Safety creates growth.
Let's look beyond the behavior and support the person behind it.
