SZA’s autism diagnosis is opening a conversation that feels deeply familiar to many Black women: How long can you move through the world knowing something feels different before anyone gives you the language to understand why?

After sharing that she had received a formal autism diagnosis as an adult, SZA’s disclosure quickly sparked women online to reflect on their own experiences with neurodivergence, including years spent masking, adapting, or having traits interpreted as anxiety, sensitivity, introversion, giftedness, or simply being “difficult.”

SZA’s story is her own, but the response points to something larger: a generation of women looking back at their lives with new questions about masking, missed signs, and why recognition can come so late.

13 years ago this week, Evo opened its doors. We had two clients, one furnished office, a small Costco desk, and my computer from home. Now we have a large team, two locations, and have seen 12,000 clients. We look different but the work is still the same: one hour, one client, our full engagement, compassion, and desire to help people overcome life’s challenges. We are grateful for every client, therapist, admin, and colleague who has been a part of our journey. Our first Evo client still checks in here and there 🧡

For the record, there is a need for protecting q***r folks:especially youth, who experience bullying, assaults, mental health issues, and su***de. Policies that protect gender affirming care need to be maintained and conversion therapy has been banned in Canada for years. Our team is dedicated to education and ongoing training to provide the best care for our 2slgtbq clients and their families 🧡
