From Play to Words From Play to Words serves children 0-18 years and provides speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology and behavioural supports.

From Play to Words consultants believe in the power of play We believe that enhancing your child's social and cognitive development through interactions in play is all important. During play children develop language and motor skills. Opportunities to play also present opportunities to socialize and engage in problem-solving.

It’s easy to look at putty and just see play… unless your an occupational therapist 👀

Squeezing, pinching, rolling, and pulling putty all help build hand strength, grasp and coordination; the same skills kids use to open their snack bag, zip up their coats, hold a pencil, turn a door handle…(the list goes on!!)

And since October is Occupational Therapy month in Canada, we wanted to share one of the many ways we sneak skill-building into play💛

Need some fun ways to sneak in sensory input for your kiddo at home?

🫟Play-Doh: Heavy work and calming squeezes + touch exploration

🪑Chair spinning: Change how you see the world while spinning + get some vestibular input

🧺 Laundry basket push: Load up a laundry basket and get pushing for “heavy work” to support regulation. Add a mission: deliver the toys across the room for our movement seekers

🫧 Bubbles: Targets that often-forgotten interoception system with deep breaths. Pause and notice how your body feels before and after blowing

⚽ Ball rolls: Use rolling for deep pressure and touch input to support regulation and body awareness

🎉 Party Blowers: Take some deep breaths and blow those pom-poms away! Simplify it by using just the party blowers for a fun breathing activity

🌯 Blanket burrito: Cozy squishes + a vestibular spin to support regulation

Try these out and tell us which were your favorites!!
