Today let's focus on the differences between a podiatrist, advanced foot care nurse, and a pedorthist. Understanding these differences helps patients choose the right provider for their needs and avoid unregulated or misleading services. Share this information with your friends and family to keep this community safe! 😊

👣A PODIATRIST is a regulated foot specialist trained in diagnosing foot and lower‑limb conditions, performing biomechanical assessments, prescribing orthotics, and providing medical or surgical treatment.

👣An ADVANCED FOOT CARE NURSE provides clinical foot‑care services such as nail care, callus management, diabetic foot monitoring, assessments for gait (manner of walk), edema assessments plus circulation and education — but they do not diagnose or prescribe orthotics.

👣A PEDORTHIST is a specialist in orthotic fabrication and footwear modification; they can design and build orthotics but require a prescription from a regulated clinician and DO NOT provide any medical interventions of the foot.

Each profession plays an important role, but their scopes are different. Understanding these differences helps patients choose the right provider for their needs and avoid unregulated or misleading services.

Wishing you and your folks a great weekend from the Footworks Family 😁

❗SAFETY ALERT!!!! ARE YOU SEEING WHO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

As part of our ongoing education week; we at FOOTWORKS cannot stress enough on how important it is to make sure you are seeing a HEALTH PROFESSIONAL. A clinician who has the education to do the practice they claim to do!

We have seen too many patients come through our doors telling us of a self-proclaimed practitioner (claims such as being a nurse, pedorthist, podiatrist, chiropodist etc.) has touched their feet with surgical blades and/or injecting freezing for nail surgeries. We have seen WOUNDS caused by individuals who are NOT educated to be using these tools on a patient or anyone.

DIABETICS SHOULD BE SEEN BY A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL FOR FOOT CARE!!!

Protect your family and protect yourself by checking if the practitioner you are seeing is who they say they are AND if they have a practicing number or documentation that is regulated by a professional college such as The Saskatchewan College of Podiatrists, CLPNS or CNA.

We have seen many cases of patients who have been taken advantage of simply because they didn't know to ask for something like a license number.

Seeing someone with no proper educational background can lead to MANY problems including fatal consequences such as septic infections from foot ulcerations. Foot Care Nurses are trained to find patients the next best level of care in emergencies because they have the medical training and legal competencies to do so.

Simply claiming you are a health professional does not allow you access to the medical community to keep patients safe. If you or someone you know sees someone who is not who they say they are, please report it!
Let's protect each other and our community.

From your caring family at Footworks. 👣

⭐️Clinically designed. Professionally prescribed. Orthotics that truly support your foundation. 👟
Custom orthotics are medical devices designed to support, align, or improve the function of your feet and lower limbs. Unlike store‑bought inserts, true custom orthotics are created using a detailed clinical assessment and precise measurements of your foot structure, gait, and biomechanics. They matter because they can reduce pain, improve mobility, prevent injury, and support long‑term foot and lower‑leg health especially for people with diabetes, lymphedema, arthritis, flat feet, or chronic foot pain.
Orthotics are not a “fix‑everything” product, but when prescribed correctly, they can make a significant difference in daily comfort and function. The key is ensuring they are made by a trained, regulated professional who understands anatomy, pathology, and biomechanics. Proper orthotics are an investment in your health, and choosing the right practitioner is the first step.

Stick with us this week as we celebrate Canada Patient Safety Week and post educational information to help you and others stay safe in our community! 🍁👣

👣 Your safety starts with knowing who is treating you. 🚨
🍁Canadian Patient Safety Week reminds us that safe care isn’t just about skill but it’s about staying within one’s legal scope.
In foot care, unregulated or improperly trained individuals may offer services that look “clinical,” but lack the education needed to identify risks such as infection, circulation concerns, injury/re-injury, or diabetic complications.
❗ To ensure you are seeing someone you can trust, use their medical license number to look them up. It is a practitioner’s official proof that they’re trained, regulated, and legally allowed to provide care. It lets the public verify credentials, check for disciplinary history, and confirm the provider is practicing within their proper scope. When you choose someone with a valid license, you’re choosing accountability, safety, and professional standards.
At Footworks we strive to keep the public safe from individuals who could attempt to take advantage of you or your family.

Starting Monday Oct 26th/2026 Footworks will post a series to helpful education posts to guide patients as to why the proper orthotics are an integral part of your health and why patients should confirm education and credentials before buying.

At Footworks we are not about simply selling everyone an orthotic. It's about knowing who actually needs one, why they need it, and what type will best meet their needs.

Our visiting Podiatrist from Main Steps Podiatry gives Footworks patients access to Podiatric care and assessments.

So, In the meantime ask yourself this question about your orthotics: What's actually custom about them?
