Healing isn’t just about changing your thoughts; it’s about changing your biology, your psychology, and your social life.
Trauma reshapes the nervous system, which influences the stories we tell ourselves, our perceptions, vigilance, appeasing strategies, etc., and how safe it feels to connect with other people. Once upon a time, these superpowers were helpful and meant to be lifesaving measures. Now that the environment is different, you’re called to evolve… again. This time, from the survival you to the authentic you!
✨ Biology: Your nervous system can learn and reorganize toward safety. Approaches like neurofeedback help shift the brain from chronic survival states into greater regulation, allowing your body to experience calm instead of constantly anticipating danger.
✨ Psychology: Healing isn’t about pretending the past didn’t happen; it’s about transforming a survival narrative into an objective autobiographical story—one that acknowledges what happened, recognizes how it shaped you, and integrates the wisdom, resilience, and perspective that emerge through post-traumatic growth.
✨ Social Connection: Trauma often happens in relationships, so healing often happens there too. The longing for connection can exist alongside the fear of it. As your nervous system becomes more regulated, your behaviours can begin to align with your authentic values instead of old survival strategies.
You were never your hypervigilance.
You were never your people-pleasing.
You were never your perfectionism.
You were never your shame.
You were a well equipped survivor!
Those were brilliant adaptations.
But they were never your identity.
Healing is the gradual process of becoming who you were before survival became your personality.
It’s time to stop surviving.
It’s time to remember who you are.
