As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, the Thanksgiving long weekend is a wonderful time to enjoy the beauty of the season, spend meaningful moments with family and friends, and reflect on those we hold close in our hearts. 🍂

As you plan your weekend, please note that our funeral and cemetery offices will be closed on Monday, October 12 for Thanksgiving Day. Cemetery gates will remain open, and regular office hours will resume on Tuesday.

A friendly reminder that cemetery gates are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable long weekend.

A visionary who helped shape Toronto’s skyline. 🏙️

Long before bold, sculptural towers became part of Toronto’s identity, architect Uno Prii was challenging convention with imaginative designs that stood apart from the city’s traditional architecture. From the sweeping curves of The Vincennes to the striking forms of Prince Arthur Towers, his buildings brought a sense of optimism, creativity, and futurism to Toronto’s growing skyline.

Initially considered unconventional, Prii’s work is now celebrated as an important part of Toronto’s architectural heritage, with many of his buildings recognized as cultural landmarks. His legacy is a reminder that great design can be both functional and inspiring.

Today, we honour the children who never came home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who continue to live with their legacy. 🧡

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to reflect on the lasting impacts of the residential school system, listen to Indigenous voices, and deepen our collective commitment to truth, understanding, and reconciliation.

Across MPG, we are taking time to remember, reflect, and recognize that reconciliation is an ongoing journey.

While we didn’t take the award home this year, we’re grateful to have been recognized alongside so many organizations working to make our communities more accessible and inclusive. A memorial that keeps an important story alive. ⚓

More than a century after the devastating sinking of the RMS Empress of Ireland in 1914, the lives lost and the acts of courage shown in the face of tragedy continue to be remembered. Among the victims were members of the Salvation Army, many of whom are commemorated at Mount Pleasant Cemetery through the Empress of Ireland Memorial.

This powerful story was also featured as part of this year's Fall History Tour at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, where visitors explored the people, places, and moments that have shaped our shared history. The memorial stands as a lasting tribute to service, sacrifice, and the importance of remembering those who came before us.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us this past weekend for our annual Butterfly Release Memorial at Pine Hills and Thornton Cemetery. 🦋

Held in honour of World United for Life Day, this special gathering brought together family, friends, and community members to celebrate the lives of those we have lost, those who remain with us, and our own lives through remembrance, reflection, and hope.

Thank you to all who shared this meaningful day with us and helped make it such a special tribute. 💙

Honouring Those We Remember ❤️

On Sunday, we were honoured to host the 66th annual Pine Hills Zone D-5 Memorial Service at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre in partnership with the The Royal Canadian Legion.

This meaningful gathering brought together veterans, Legion members, cadets, community members, and our team to pay tribute to those who served our country and are laid to rest at Pine Hills. Through moments of reflection, remembrance, and gratitude, we honoured their sacrifices and lasting legacy.

Thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion Zone D-5, Branch 345, all participants, and attendees who helped make this year's service so meaningful. We will remember them. 🌺
