Dr. Elliott was the guest on Traction Podcast this week.

"In this episode, Dr. Elliott breaks down why obesity, insulin resistance, and prediabetes have exploded across modern society, and why many founders and high performers are quietly damaging their metabolic health through stress, poor sleep, alcohol, sedentary work, and overstimulation. We explore the science behind Ozempic, GLP-1 agonists, retatrutide, testosterone decline, fertility, fasting, aging, addiction, and the future of preventative medicine. Dr. Elliott also explains why some patients in clinical trials “begged to stop” after losing too much weight, and how these drugs may extend far beyond weight loss into addiction recovery and longevity research."

Check it out wherever you listen to your podcasts.

It's a bittersweet day at the clinic today, as we say goodbye to some amazing members of our work family.

Today was the last day for Zaren Mabanta, who is starting a UBC Internal Medicine Residency, Mitra Hosseininejad, who is starting a Family Practice Residency in Toronto, and Reem AlShareef, who finished her 1 year Diabetes Technology Fellowship and heads back to Saudi Arabia.

Every year we say goodbye to talented people, and welcome fantastic new members of our team. Congratulations, Zaren, Mitra and Reem!

On May 21, the BC Diabetes Foundation held its third, and second annual, Spring Gala at the terminal city club in Vancouver. It was a great event which raised more than $300k which will go towards coverage of the BC Pharmacare Deductible for families who cannot afford it. As you know, pills and most insulin are now free in BC (“from the first dollar”) but Ozempic, CGM and insulin pumps are still subject to the deductible. The Foundation continues to work hard on eliminating the deductible completely. If you haven’t signed our petition yet, please do so.

The keynote speaker was Dr. David Thompson, a member of the Foundation’s Board, who talked about the recent striking advances in Islet Cell Transplantation (ICT). Immediately following his speech was a testimonial by Anthony Roberts, a longtime BC Diabetes clinic client, who received an Islet Cell Transplant through the Vertex 880 clinical trial and has not taken a single shot of insulin in more than three years. Below is a recent photo of Anthony with Dr. Elliott.

Bottom line is that Islet Cell Transplantation is still experimental but ever more promising. All BCDiabetes clients will be notified immediately should a clinical trial for which they are eligible become available.
