Our In-Hospital Coordinator Bobbi was at Abbotsford Regional Hospital on May 13 to raise awareness for organ donation and transplant at the education fair.

She created a fun Jeopardy game and inspired many healthcare staff to learn more in an uplifting and engaged manner. She was touched by the connections she was able to make and the interest to learn more.

Thank you so much Bobbi for your creativity, passion and care to raise awareness, we admire you and your efforts!

June is Pride Month, and we are excited to share an interesting fact with you. Did you know? Everyone can register to be an organ donor. A person’s sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression does not prevent them from becoming an organ donor.

Viewer discretion is advised! 👀

(We have some interesting content to share, but it may not be for everyone.)

May is Vision Health Month, so we are bringing some informative footage from Transplant Stories that aired on Knowledge Network in 2024. The Eye Bank of British Columbia at VGH is a place that gives the gift of sight to many individuals in BC.

Watch this short reel to learn about the procedure of eye donation from donor to a cornea recipient.

The gift of sight gives many individuals the opportunity to experience life, take in colours, go on adventures and allows memories to imprint into their minds. It really is a beautiful gift.

We hope you learn something new, we sure did, Happy Vision Health Month!

It’s Asian Heritage Month, and so we’re resharing this meaningful conversation featuring four of BC’s leading Asian Canadian transplant surgeons!

In “Transplant Titans: A Conversation with B.C.’s Leading Asian Canadian Transplant Surgeons,” these remarkable physicians reflect on their journeys in medicine, the importance of representation and mentorship, and the impact of organ donation and transplantation on countless lives.

The insights and stories shared remain just as powerful and relevant today. We’re proud to revisit and amplify these voices during Asian Heritage Month as we celebrate the contributions of Asian Canadian communities in health care and beyond.

Watch the full conversation on YouTube and join us in recognizing the leadership, resilience, and lasting impact of these amazing physicians who play a crucial role in making organ donation and transplant possible.

May is Vision Health Month, so we are shining some light on our cornea transplant recipients and the gift of sight they received.

Meet Bobbi! Bobbi works at BC Transplant as an In-Hospital Coordinator for the Fraser Valley region. As part of the Organ Donation and Hospital Development team, she supports organ donation and transplant efforts on the front line — while also personally understanding the impact of transplantation as a cornea transplant recipient herself.

Bobbi shares:
“Because of the gift of a cornea transplant, I still get to lace up my skates for ringette, coach my daughter, hike the trails I love, and care for my three beautiful girls with independence and joy. I was even able to drive halfway across the country with them this past summer — making memories I will never take for granted.

Every day, I am reminded that organ donation is more than medicine; it is humanity at its very best. It is both a privilege and an honour to work in organ donation, serving my community while carrying a deep gratitude for the generosity of strangers who give others the chance to keep living the lives they love.”

Thank you, Bobbi, for sharing your story and for your passion and dedication to organ donation and transplant. Your kindness, compassion, and approachable nature make a meaningful difference both in the workplace and in hospitals across the Fraser Valley.

Walks of Life is back this year on Tuesday, June 16 — but do you know when we first held this special event?

April 24, 2019 💚

It was a beautiful day filled with sunshine, connection, and community. Around 80 people gathered at False Creek near Science World to honour organ donors, donor families, and transplant recipients.

The transplant community came together to share stories, support one another, and recognize the incredible gift of life through organ donation and transplantation.

It’s a day that remains etched in our memories, and we know this year’s event will be just as meaningful.

Join us for Walks of Life on Tuesday, June 16 from 4:00–5:00pm at Burnaby Art Gallery.

Auntie Uyen was a proud Vietnamese Canadian who loved football, Bryan Adams, travel, family dinners and making people laugh.

After her sudden passing in December 2025, her family learned she had registered as an organ donor — a decision that saved five lives and brought comfort in their grief.

This Asian Heritage Month, they hope her story inspires more open conversations about organ donation in Asian communities.

Uyen’s nephew Brian says, “Having such a positive thing be part of our lasting memory of her has really helped our grief. My kids remember Auntie Uyen saved five lives.”
